February 28th National Public Sleeping Day

Go ahead, take a nap. Doesn’t matter where you are, just close your eyes and go to sleep. The only catch today is it needs to be in public where others can see you. Maybe visit a mattress factory or showcase, where you can get a good rest in!

Now if you are on the lookout for these national sleepers, pay close attention to those wearing sunglasses or sitting in the shade. Snoring is also a good give-a-way that they may be a public sleeper.

I hope you partied hard last night so you have a reason to sleep today. I do warn others though, maybe don’t take an airplane today or make sure your Uber driver stays awake as they get you where you are going.

Well, it’s my turn to go take a nap so I’ll be signing off now…..

How to celebrate – Take a na…. (snoring sounds)

February 27th No Brainer Day

Today is a day you don’t even have to think about, hence it requires no brains at all. In fact, you don’t even have to think about anything today. Naturally that may get you into a little bit of trouble but what the heck, to not have to think is worth it. In fact, the entire world might be better off if we all stopped thinking for a day.

It seems like maybe we would all be better off if we did stop thinking for a while. When the entire world thinks, that’s when the troubles begin. The day was created by Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith. (Now there’s a name you have to think about just to say!) She is an Eventologist, whatever that is. And according to Insight Magazine out of Washington, DC, she is the best Eventologist there is. The day was created in 1995.

It seems appropriate that a day that requires no thinking comes out of Washington, DC. There is so little thinking that goes on there anyway.

How to celebrate – Move to Washington, DC where thinking is not a requirement! Try not to thinking today. Wait… don;t you have to think about not thinking?

February 26th National Tell A Fairy Tale Day

National Tell A Fairy Tale Day – February 26th

Fairy Tales are oral history handed down over time. Of course, they are embellished a little and a lot of the truth may have been removed, they mostly started from some real source. For example, Snow White is based on the life of Margarette von Waldek who lived in Germany where her family was involved in mining. Children were used to go down the narrow passages, becoming the Dwarves in the Fairy Tale. Waldek fell in love with a Prince but died before they could be united.

How to celebrate – Read a Fairy Tale. Study the real truth behind your favorite Fairy Tales. Make someone dream come true.

February 25th National Cupcake Day

Today is National Cupcake Day… in Canada. So why not celebrate our northern neighbor’s holiday!?! And I particularly like this one because it is used to help the SPCA and Humane Organizations in Canada. It helps our friends the animals we all love.

It always falls on the last Monday of February so the date does change but the intent does not. I have been wondering if dogs know how happy they generally make us. They certainly make us better people. Cats, horses, rabbits… whatever the animal we have as friends do make us better than we would be without them.

And better yet, we get to eat cupcakes to show our support for them. How sweet is that! And maybe we can even find an animal healthy cupcake for them to enjoy with us! Just make sure you don’t mix them up!

How to celebrate – Help out our pets today whether they are Canadian or in the United States. Make some pet friendly cupcakes. Visit Canada.

February 24th Pistol Patent Day

Today is Pistol Patent Day. it is based on the day that Samuel Colt got his U.S. patent on his revolver in the United States in 1836. He had already obtained the patent in Europe in 1835. The patent # is 138.

All that said, as I understand it, a pistol today is considered an automatic, or semi-automatic weapon. Like the famed Colt 45, so a pistol is technically not what Colt invented. he invented a revolver that does not fire automatically by pulling the trigger, rather is has a chamber that revolves around the firing pin.

I don’t know that really matters. I think maybe it should be called hand gun day instead of pistol day because an old flintlock was neither automatic nor a revolver and yet it was called a pistol. But, today is the day we celebrate them… whatever they technically are.

How to celebrate – If you own a hand gun, go target practice. Make sure you have a lock on your pistol to keep it safe. Read about the history of the pistol.

February 23rd Open That Bottle Day

You know that bottle of wine, champagne, scotch of whatever you have been saving forever for some unknown reason… well to day is the day to finally open it and have a taste. If you stop and think about it, what have you been waiting for? Take care though if it is a bottle of Ripple or Boone’s Farm, it has probably turned to vinegar!

Today was created by Dorothy Gaither and John Becher, both columnists for “Tastings”. While the idea is to open a bottle of champagne but it really works for anything that has a cork, or if cheap, a screw top! It falls on the last Saturday of February, though I don’t think it has always been there.

People end to save a special bottle of something for some special occasion. The idea has value but if you stop and think about, isn’t every day special? And if you want to save it to share it with someone, why wait until they are far away? The catch is, it does not begin until after 5 PM.

How to celebrate – Open that bottle you’ve been saving. Buy a bottle this year and wait until next year to open it. Read “Tastings”.

February 22nd George Washington’s Birthday

Today is George Washington’s birthday… well, since he’s not around anymore it was George Washington’s birthday. He was born February 22nd, 1732. He was a wealthy farmer and soldier before the Revolutionary War and led the meager American forces during the revolution.

The war ended in 1781 meaning Washington was 49 when peace came about. Back then, that was considered fairly old. He became President in 1787, six years later so that would have made him 55. Many wanted to make him King but I think he had seen enough of a King George during the war and refused.Being the first of anything is tough and I cannot even imagine what it must have been to be the first President.

Washington died in 1799. He was 67 or maybe 68. A life well lived. He wasn’t perfect but then… who is?

How to celebrate – Throw a George Washington birthday party. Visit Williamsburg. Make some cherry pie.

February 21st Card Reading Day

You know all those cards you saved over the holidays, intending to read them sometime? Well today is the day to finally read them, or re-read them, and then maybe throw them away! It’s also the opportunity to read, or re-read, those e-cards sent to you and then delete them! Remember to keep a list of those who sent you cards so that you remember to send them to those same people next holiday!

Cards are not the same anymore. I love e-cards but they do seem a little impersonal. They are much more elaborate than the regular cards one can send, and a lot less expensive! You can also wait to send them until the last minute if you are that type. (And who among us isn’t!)

Cards do mean a lot, whether they are hard copy or e-cards. They let someone know you care and are thinking of them. That really does mean a lot when we are so busy with all we have to do. They make the days brighter for those sending as well as those receiving.

How to celebrate – Re-read cards you have received. Check out your future with Tarot cards. (Just don’t believe in them) Design your own cards to send out.
