March 31 – World Backup Day

Okay, it’s not what you think. This is not a day to walk backwards or drive to work in reverse. Today is much more important than those things. Today is the day to backup all your files, intended for computer primarily but also any other important records you have. You need that backup because at sometime or the other you will have a computer that will crash, a file cabinet that will get soaked or a child that will draw on your last copy of an important document. If you have them backed up, no big deal, if you don’t… big deal! And since in our busy days we are generally so happy to have just completed a project that we do not even think about backing it up just in case. Well, today is a reminder day that it needs to be done. So don;t just sit there enjoying your cup of coffee and reading blogs… go back up your important papers!

How to celebrate – Learn more about the cloud. Make sure you put your backup files in a safe place. Remember to backup pictures too, those that can’t ever be replaced.

March 30th National Take A Walk In A Park Day

You could take a walk anywhere today but why not make it a park!?! national park, state park, county park… it really doesn’t matter. The weather is hopefully nicer now where you live, the full color of nature is beginning to return and animals are once again out and about. It is the perfect time to get out among it and become a part of nature. It’s peaceful, calming and can bring us to an understanding of what is really important in life and what’s not. (This will vary with each and every person you talk to) Look at a tree and remember that no tow leaves are perfectly alike. There are thousands, maybe even millions of leaves in a park… do the represent the people on the earth? Think about it while you go for a walk in a park.

How to celebrate – Find a park close to you. Go for a walk. Take friends with you so you can share what you see, hear and feel.

March 29th Smoke and Mirrors Day

Smoke an mirrors is the idea of creating something that is not there appear there, or to make something appear different than it really is. It has been used for centuries. In fact most political figures use smoke and mirrors to divert attention from what they are really doing or really mean. It creates the illusion of something other than what it is., whether that’s an idea or a real tangible object. Magicians have used smoke and mirrors since magic was first used. In all honesty, there is nothing truly magical. The best magicians are very adapt at using smoke and mirrors so that you cannot see what they are actually doing. I admit, some are very, very good but you must keep in mind it is never what you think it is.

How to celebrate – Learn to do some magic tricks. Try to spot the illusion being created for you. Figure out where you can use smoke and mirrors in your daily life.

March 28th National Something On A Stick Day

Well, nearly everything we eat today can be put on a stick and probably has been at one time or another. Even pudding has been put on a stick. Of course you have to change it’s normal form but it can indeed be put on a stick. Things like corn-dogs are normally served on a stick and it really doesn’t make them any better but they seem to be more enjoyable when they are on a stick. Perhaps it’s because when food is on a stick it becomes portable and you can walk around with it, enjoying other things while enjoying your food. Pickles, cakes, potatoes, you name it, it has probably appeared on a stick at one time or another. It probably is as old as man since when man realized he could actually cook food it was cooked on a stick!

How to celebrate – Eat something on a stick. Try putting something on a stick you have not seen before. Save those stick in your backyard for later use.

March 27th National “Joe” Day

I guess the most popular name in the entire world is “Joe”. Well, at least in the United States anyway. We named our soldiers Joe, G.I. Joe, because while they are not common by any means, the idea of the soldier is common. So a G.I. Joe stood for anybody who was in uniform. We even call our coffee having a cup of Joe, because it’s common. Why not Bob or Bill? Well, we gave other outside titles to Bob and Bill. For example to bob is to bounce or dodge out of the way. Bill on the other hand is something we pay at the end of a meal. So I assume Joe just wasn’t taken for anything else! Think of all the people you know named Joe. They are becoming less and less common with people inventing names like L’orange and Peacebewithyouandeveryoneyouknow. But there will always be a place for Joe’s in our lives because it actually means all of us.

How to celebrate – Make a list of all the Joe’s you know. List all the things you have heard of named Joe. Have a cup of Joe.

March 26th Make Up Your Own Holiday Day

Now here’s a day you can really get behind and celebrate. Why? Because you made it up yourself! We, at Unboxing the Bizarre, did that ourselves by creating National Mason Jar Day. (It does cost money to list it) So you can do it too, even if it’s just for you friends and family, or maybe just yourself. You can celebrate it the way you want… sort of like you do your birthday. The thing about it is, you sort of need to make it a big deal for anyone to take you seriously. Once again, today was created by the people at Wellness, actually Wellness Permission League. My guess is that they are hoping you pay them the fees to set it up. Right now the problem is, no one seems to know how to contact them. Maybe they are out celebrating.

How to celebrate – Create your own holiday. Celebrate your holiday in any way you want. Create additional holidays, just make sure no one else has claimed it.

March 25th Feast Of The Annunciation

Can you imagine getting visited by an Angel? Not just any Angel but an Archangel? Gabriel himself? Now, can you imagine that Archangel telling you that you will have a bay in 9 months? What happened to being a virgin? And not only are you going to have a baby but that baby will be the Son of God? And He will be named Jesus. Well that’s exactly what happened to Mary of Nazareth. Can you imagine explaining that to your parents? So March 25th has been deemed that day since we celebrate Christmas on December 25th, exactly nine months away. Naturally, we don’t really know what day Jesus was born, it was never recorded so Christmas Day is, at best, a guess. That means March 25th is, at best, a guess. But since we humans seem to need to assign dates to things, it’s as good as any.

How to celebrate – Have a Feast today. Study what is known of the Archangel Gabriel. Visit Nazareth.

March 24th National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day

Well, it seems like we tend to celebrate a lot of days that really aren’t all tat important. I don’t think i would put Chocolate Covered Raisins at the top of my list unless I were planning on playing Bridge today. Not that there is anything wrong with chocolate covered raisins, I do like them but I do not know that I would go as far as to actually celebrate them. On the other hand, they should, or could, be named a health food. After all, chocolate comes from the cocoa bean which is a vegetable and raisins are a fruit, so when we eat chocolate covered raisins we are eating our fruits and veggies! I just think the sugar involved here may sort of take it out of the range of most health foods. Still, it is a way to have something sweet and make the world think you are just being patriotic by eating them, after all it is national. Though I don’t think the government actually sees them that way.

How to celebrate – Have some chocolate covered raisins. Eat your fruit and vegetables. Play Bridge.

March 23rd National Puppy Day

National Puppy Day – March 23rd

Who doesn’t love a puppy!?! They are filled with all the good things in life and they are willing to share expecting little in return. Today was created in 2006 to promote puppy adoption. There are so many puppies out there that do not have a home of their own, go hungry because no one helps them and suffer when they do not need to. They are our best friends and all they ask for is a little love, a little food and a little water. They are willing to protect us, love us when no one else does and make a house a home.

How to celebrate – Adopt a puppy today. Help an animal shelter today. Love your puppy like you would a child.

March 22nd National Goof Off Day

Today was created by Monica “Moeller” Dufour with the help of her Grandfather William D. Chase. Monica lives in Davidson, MI. The general idea of today is that it becomes the one day of the year you are allowed to goof off. You know, don’t even bother to go into work… go fishing or play golf, go shopping or get your hair done, sleep in or go swimming (If it’s warm enough) You might want to check with your boss and make sure this is okay. There are some jobs where you really don’t want them to goof off, like a doctor, a pilot or the guy that makes your donuts in the morning. We all need goof off days so that we can pay better attention the rest of the year. William created his own calendar for the year, it did create a goof off day, so if you ever wanted to know what he was up to, you could just go to his calendar and find out!

How to celebrate – Goof off today (If you are able). Create your own calendar so you know what to expect. Go back to bed and forget today ever happened.
