The 3rd Sunday of July has been dedicated by Ronald Reagan, in 1984, as National Ice Cream Day. Who doesn’t like ice cream, that is unless you are allergic to dairy. Apparently ice cream being put into a cone was another of the creations at the 1904 World Fair, seems a lot of new things came out of that event. But it likely isn’t true. Lemon flavored ice was being served in Italy in the late 1800’s in cones of some sort. Ice cream has gone through a lot of changes over the year. It’s gotten creamier, colder and the flavors are anything you can imagine putting in milk. I remember back when Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry were the only flavors readily available. Then came all the other flavors including bacon, avocado and even chicken! I am not sure I really want to taste any of those flavors but if that’s your thing… have at it! And oddly, ice cream, in moderation, really isn’t all that bad for you… the problem is, who can eat it in moderation!?!
How to celebrate – Have a bowl, or cone, of ice cream. Create your own flavor of ice cream. Get an ice cream maker and make ice cream when ever you want it.
