August 31st National Eat Outside Day

Anybody can eat indoors. We do it all the time, morning, afternoon and night. Sometimes the weather keeps us from eating outside, it’s too hot or it’s too cold and those days are ahead of us. So if you want to go outside and eat, today is the day to do it. Food just seems to taste better when you are in nature. Maybe because most of our food comes from nature. Hearing the birds sing, feeling the warmth of the sun are appealing. Fighting off the bugs, rain and snow do put a damper on the day but it’s August so hopefully you won’t run into any of that. I think most of us call eating outside a picnic, although you can cook a meal and eat it in your front yard if you choose. Besides, ants really need your help.

How to celebrate – Have a picnic. Have breakfast in your backyard. Have a cook-out!

August 30th Frankenstein Day

Wow, there are a ton of Frankenstein days during the year. Seems like most of them come around Halloween, I can’t imagine why? They each have their own reason for being created but I believe today has one of the top reasons. Today was the day Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, the author and creator of Frankenstein was born. August 30th, 1797. Did you have any idea that Frankenstein was created back in 1818? Of course the monster we celebrate today is quite different from the one she wrote about. She still gets the credit though. And well she should, if she had not created the monster we would never have had it in our lives. It does sort of make you wonder though, what monsters were running around in her head in 1818?

How to celebrate – Throw Mary a belated birthday party. Read Shelley’s original “Frankenstein”. Dress up like Frankenstein.

August 29th More Herbs, Less Salt Day

We all know salt is bad for us, at least too much of it is bad for us. However, meals without salt can be very bland so instead of using salt, use some herbs to flavor your meals. Garlic, rosemary, thyme… they all add flavor to meals (Sometimes too much flavor). Herbs are natures way of telling us… well, I don’t know what they are telling us since both salt and herbs have been around forever. Most herbs are pretty easy to grow, you can pick them fresh and they do add flavor and most of them are good for you! So when you reach for that salt shaker at your next meal think about adding some herbs instead, they are natural and most are pretty cheap as well. Today was created by Wellcat.com.

How to celebrate – See how many herbs you can list. Grow your own herb garden. Check which herbs go best with which foods.

August 28th Race Your Mouse Day

This is an odd day, maybe that’s why Wellcat.com copyrighted it. Who knows. The idea of today is to race against the mouse on your computer to see if you can beat it to where ever it is that you are going. I’m not really sure that it possible but if you have absolutely nothing else to do, try it! Or, if you happen to have a pet mouse, or even a mouse that’s not a pet, see if you can beat it to where it is going. That will be difficult because mice don’t often keep to a course if they know there is a person around. It’s all about the cheese! So there you have it, race the mouse on your computer or find a mouse in your house, yard or where ever, and race it to where ever it is going.

How to celebrate – Race your computer mouse. Race a real life mouse. Find something better to do like, take a nap!

August 27th National Just Because Day

Have you ever done something just because you could? Not because you have to or are expected to but just because you were able to. (Or maybe not even able but had he freedom to do it) As bad as many people think the Untied States at least you are generally free to do whatever you want, whenever you want. It is not that way everywhere in the world. If you want to go swiming in the winter, you can. If you want sit on top of a flag pole, you can. If you want to become a citizen of the United States you can… legally. Well today is really more about celebrating freedom than doing something just because you can.

How to celebrate – Do something you wouldn’t normally do. (Just make sure it’s legal!) Look into clubs you can join you normally would not participate in. Buy something you want, not just because you need it.
