August 26th National Toilet Paper Day

With the recent panic over toilet paper, it is time we learn a little bit more about it. And with that said, it’s made from trees… there you go, all done. Actually, about 10 million trees are cut down every year to create enough toilet paper for the world. Americans use the most, about 50 pounds a year per person, the rest of the world averages somewhere around 33 pounds. I’m not sure exactly what that means. Toilet paper was first introduced in the US in 1857 by Joseph Gayetty but it was primarily for the rich. By 1871 it was produced commercially for use, and in 1883 it appeared in a roll.

How to celebrate – Try not to waste toilet paper. Don’t hoard toilet paper, it just goes to waste (pun intended). Grow your own toilet paper!
