August 29th International Bat Night

Okay, so here comes a mouth full… tonight is celebrated on the last Saturday night in August that leads into a Sunday morning in August. You need a day just to celebrate remembering that one! Anyway, it was created in 1997 by EUROBATS to educate people about the good bats provide. There are over 1,100 species of bats, and they can live up to 30 years. They eat up to 1,100 mosquitoes in an hour and of course bat guano is among the best fertilizers you can buy. Yes, they are a little creepy and naturally anyone of them could be Count Dracula but beyond that, bats are pretty cool.

How to celebrate – Don’t be afraid of bats. If you have a mosquito problem, put some bats in your yard. Use bat guano in your gardens.
