Here’s a day to shout about (possibly in agony from the pain)! Even though there was evidence of chili peppers being used in dishes some 6000 years ago, it wasn’t until 1807 that someone decided to bottle up that taste. Tabasco was one of the earliest brands to be bottled and sold commercially. May different peppers are used in hot sauces nowadays – with the hottest one being the Carolina Reaper clocking in at an unbelievably volcanic heat of 2,000,000 Scoville Heat Units.
I didn’t find out much on the founding of this day, but maybe people wanted a but of warmth in the bitter cold month of January (well at least in some places in the world).
