May 5th Cartoonist Day

The first cartoon to appear in a newspaper, so far as we know, was Richard F. Outcault’s “Yellow Kid” in Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World in 1895 – 1898. It was probably not what you think it might have been, it was about a boy dressed in a yellow shirt. Cartoons normally are supposed to be humorist but many have become political in nature, some even R rated (Or worse). Cartoonist Day was created by the National Cartoonist Society in 1999.
