May 14th National Buttermilk Biscuit Day

Biscuits have been used in meals for as long as, well biscuits have been around. The first mention of them came into use just prior to the American Civil War but here again, I believe they have probably been around for longer. Crackers and hardtack are considered biscuits but probably not made with buttermilk. Buttermilk generally makes the biscuit fluffier and softer. They have been a tradition in the South since, well at least before the Civil War!
