October 15th White Cane Safety Day

Today was proclaimed by Congress, October 15th, 1964 and signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson to make sure people learned, and then paid attention to, the use of the white cane by those who are blind or visually impaired. The white cane is an extremely valuable tool to those that need it. It gives a sense of freedom and of course provides safety in getting a sense of what is around that person and in front of that person. It also alerts people who may be required to help those afflicted.

How to celebrate- Try guiding yourself about with a white cane. Provide a white cane to those in need. Help those who need help navigating this world.
