Unboxing the Bizarre™ July 4th Fundraiser Press Release
For Release: July 1 00:01 EST
The tragic events in our community over the last month have touched so many lives not just here in our great city, but also across the world. It has been amazing to see the outpouring of love from all around the globe.
They say when tragedy strikes, people come together. We saw that first-hand; and within minutes and days, the hashtags #prayfororlando, #orlandostrong, and #orlandounited were created and trending worldwide.
Funds were set up to help the victims.
Many people think about the victims that were killed or injured as that is in the forefront of our minds, but so many others were affected too, including employees of the Pulse and employees of other businesses in the area.
Often these victims are overlooked.
Being a small business owner myself, I couldn’t even imagine if your livelihood was disrupted for weeks, what the stress, and fear would be like to worry about how provide for your family. This stress and fear was compounded as many of these owners also personally knew the injured or killed.
Many of these businesses supported the News Media that descended on the small, quiet, friendly, “suburb” that we all know fondly as “Sodo”.
I have been very proud of our city and county leadership during this time. One way that our leaders stepped up, was not forgetting about the victims (direct and indirect) and making sure everyone affected was provided for. There was an advocacy and support center for anyone in the community who needed it – but more importantly – they set up the “OneOrlandoFund”! An account to help with any financial need created by the tragedy.
The OneOrlando Fund exceeded all expectations in the first few days. Since it was established there have been many events that have helped to keep the fund going. Our staff has supported the fund by participating in a walking event, buying #OrlandoUnited t-shirts, and eating out at a participating restaurant on June 30 for Orlando Dine Out.
But we feel that we can do more to give back to the community and give to this fund to help our neighbors. For the July 4th weekend (July 1-4), we will be donating $4.00 from every box sold on our site (Unboxing the Bizarre). This includes ALL boxes – subscription and one-off. So please help us, help other businesses and employees in our own backyard affected by this tragedy by buying a box or spreading the word.
We will rebuild – we are #OrlandoStrong!
For more information on the fund or to make a direct donation please visit the OneOrlando Site.
