The idea of being an Angel has appealed to most people at one time or another. To be able to watch over those who you leave behind and still be able to help them in some way. To watch over those in need, those who are suffering, to me Michael Landon. Well, you can’t be an actual an Angel. In fact, according to what a minster told me, humans can not be… ever, ever… an Angel. Beyond that, I was told Angels are a step below man. (I find that really, really hard to believe) But I am not educated in what it takes to become and Angel so I will pass on the information and you can choose to believe it or not.

How to celebrate – Try and help people where you can. Try to be nice and caring. Reach for the stars!

We hold Angels high among us. They are God’s warriors, or helpers and we each have at least one that watches over us… or at least we hope we do. I have been told people cannot become Angels and Angels can never have been a person. I am not sure I believe that. Maybe it’s true from the literal sense but I have known many people in my life that I could consider being an Angel and I like to think that if I work hard enough at it, maybe I could become one as well. The day was created by Jay Howard Feldman in 1993. I wonder if he knew something the rest of us didn’t. Kindness is like being an Angel and it requires very little effort from us to do so. So earn your wings whether it’s in this life… or the next.

How to celebrate – Honor any Angel you know. Believe in something beyond yourself. Ask your Angel for some help.

December 25th Christmas Day

In case you hadn’t heard, today is Christmas. It celebrates the birth of Christ, though no one really knows the exact date He was born. The Catholic Church set this date against a pagan holiday so that Christians, as well as others, would have something to celebrate instead. It has worked out well. The symbols of Christmas surround us this time of year, the Christmas tree standing for the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; Santa for St. Nickolas; the songs for celebration, and the idea of giving gifts just as the Magi gave gifts to Jesus. We distort it, claim it for our own and don’t even know what the true date is but it still stands for the peace and harmony we all strive for. It is a time for family, friends, and even to forgive our enemies. Have a wonderful Christmas whether you believe or not.

How to celebrate – Go to church. Gather your friends and family. Celebrate love.

Angels are considered to be among the most honored and cherished creatures that have ever existed, or not existed, according to your beliefs. The day was created by Jayne Howard Feldman on August 22nd, 1993. I think she was on to something. if we all try to be more like Angels we will all be far better off, whether you believe in Angels or not. I personally believe there are Angels, some may even be human.

How to celebrate – List those around you that are Angelic. See how many Angels you can list. Pay it forward today!

August Holidays, Unboxing the Bizarre

This day has a different kind of meaning to me. As you may have guessed, I am a writer… I do more  than blogs. (Whether they are good or not I leave to you) However, I wrote  a manuscript called, “Why The Evergreens Stay Green”. It involves and Angel that once lived on earth and is charged to come back and find a tree willing to have itself turned into a manger for Jesus, without knowing who Jesus actually is.

I think it is a good story with some meaning to it… sacrifice is often asked of us without knowing who or what will benefit from it. I was asked to turn it into a play for children for Christmas time at a church. The Minister came back and told me they could not do it the way it was written because people cannot be Angels.

I thought the minister was missing the point, and wrong, so I looked it up and darn if he wasn’t right. According to theology, people cannot become, or ever have been, Angels. People are supposed to be above Angels because they have to learn and accept the Lord, instead being “born” as an Angel and more or less be “forced” into service. (Not the right words but I am not sure how else to state it.)

But in my world, I feel Angels are better, and something we should all strive to be. As humans, we are flawed. Angels are not. The idea that if you live your life trying to live up to the image of an Angel will make you a better person. If this makes God be mad at me, I am sorry. We should all strive to be better than we are and since we would only have each other to use as an example of how to live our lives, without Angels, I chose to try and live mine like an apprentice Angel, striving to actually become one some day. We typically think of Angels as God’s helpers, soft and kind on the gentle side, warriors on the more aggressive side.  They are capable of doing great things, both large and small. They can guide us, protect us, lead us and watch over us but you do have to believe.

On the more human side, they are those who generally do good, are good and fill our hearts with joy. In my opinion, you can’t make yourself an Angel, that is fake, but you can become an Angel (And still be alive) you just have to let your heart guide you through your day. Jayne Howard Feldman believed an Angel helped her create this day on August 22nd, 1993.

Most of us don’t stand a chance. We look at what is happening around us, to us and the anger builds up until we lash out. An Angel rarely lashes out but when they do, watch out! You don’t stand a chance against the power they hold.

You can be kind and caring, loving and generous and still not be an Angel. It is indeed a lofty goal to reach for. And for those non-believers, when an Angel touches you, you will believe and become that there is more to life that the little bitty part of this world that you occupy.

How to celebrate – Create your own definition of being an Angel. Try to be an Angel by putting others ahead of yourself. If you do have a Guardian Angel (Which you most likely do)  try and figure out who it is.
