June 28th Insurance Awareness Day

Insurance had to begin somewhere which means that insurance agents had to begin somewhere as well. I didn’t find a name who started it. (Though I admit I didn’t look real hard) I kinda wonder if it wasn’t some guy named Vinnie who said somewhere along the way “You need some protection” from bad things that might happen to you. Never mind that Vinnie was the bad thing that was going to happen. Now we have insurance for nearly everything in life! (Thank Lords of London) which costs us nearly as much as having those accidents happen in the first place!

How to celebrate – Avoid people named Vinnie. Start an insurance company that insures you from insurance companies. Become a secret agent, insurance agent, agent.

June 18th Take A Road Trip Day

Another holiday created by Bob Matthews of Rochester, NY, today we focus on taking a road trip somewhere… probably close by where you live. You can take longer trips, and since the kids are out of school and public transportation is somewhat questionable, getting in the car and just taking off is kinda fun. You don’t even need to plan where you are going. (Best if this is just a day trip) Get the whole family in the car and take off, enjoy the day and explore new things that you might miss in your usual travels. This holiday is always on the third Friday of June, making it available for a three day weekend.

How to celebrate – Take a road trip. Fill up the gas tank in your car. Experience something you always thought you’d like to do but have never gotten around to.

November 22nd Go For A Ride Day

It doesn’t matter if it’s a bike, in a car, on a horse, or even in or on a grocery cart today you need to go for a ride just for the fun of it. We all use our vehicles to get where we want to go but try taking a ride just to take a ride. I think of my dog who loves to go for car rides… I think she wonders why we don’t get out more often and check things out but shes gotten use to it so now it’s just a ride and she loves it! It’s funny how much more you see when you are just going for a ride. Things you miss when you are trying so hard to get somewhere.

How to celebrate – Go for a ride. Take your dog for a ride. (I do not suggest doing the same for your cat) Get some exercise so use a bike to ride.

November 14th National Seat Belt Day

November 14th National Seat Belt Day

Uber, Volvo and the Governors Highway Safety Association have all started this day to try and remind people to wear their seat belts. It is a really good idea! It is proven that seat belts save lives. It is law, you can get a ticket for not doing it but worse, you can die for not doing it. All car companies have been forced to put them in cars, so why not use them? In fact, what is the point in not wearing them? Who’s life has been saved by not wearing a seat belt?

How to celebrate – Wear your seat belt. Check your seat belts to make sure they are working. If you aren’t comfortable wearing a seat belt add some padding.

June 19th Take A Road Trip Day

Today is all about just getting in your car and hitting the road. It has nothing to do with planning anything or even picking a destination to go to. It’s just about going somewhere, anywhere and letting your heart guide you where you end up. It’s actually not about where you end up, it’s about the getting there, if you even choose to really go anyway. You are not supposed to plan this but you’ll have to remember it falls on the 3rd Friday of June. That hurts the idea of just getting in the car and going. So I guess you have to plan that you are not planning today. The day was created by Bob Matthews of Rochester, NY in 2019.

How to celebrate – Go somewhere, even if you don’t know where you’re going. Make sure to keep your gas tank in your car filled up. Never plan a trip today, just go.

February 18th National Battery Day

Today we celebrate the battery. Invented by Alessandro Volta in 1800 it was then called the Voltaic Pile. Benjamin Franklin, among others, played with the idea of the battery as far back as the mid 1700’s. Some even dabbled with the idea of the battery further back than that. Today we rely on the battery in our cars, telephones and any electrical device we use away from an electric plug. We have not yet perfected the battery but it is getting better. What may have lasted for only a few minutes originally has been improved to last sometimes up to a month with out recharge, a few even longer than that.

How to celebrate – Make a list of all the things you use daily that runs by battery. Remember to recharge those batteries you haven’t charged lately. See how many battery making companies you can name.

November 22nd Go For A Ride Day

Looking for a way to break the tension in your life? Well try going for a ride! Maybe you should pick some back country roads of a nice lane in a forest… highways tend to make your stress a little higher. When my son was a baby, twenty some years ago, we use to drive him around to help him fall asleep. It normally worked. Now we drive my dog around! It doesn’t put her to sleep but it seems to make her happy! I know a lot of great artists like to drive around to get ideas, scientist to clear their heads and teenagers for, well… something altogether different. And if you own a Tesla, you don’t even have to drive!

How to celebrate – Go for a ride. Buy a new car! Get an RV so you have more room!

October 2nd Name Your Car Day

For many of us it seems like we practically live in our cars. Good, bad or indifferent, they become a part of our lives so why not give them a name!?! Now you need to identify the personality of your car and determine whether it is a boy car or a girl car… or a gender neutral. You can name it for it’s color, performance or style… it doesn’t really matter, after all it is your car. However, keeping that in mind, it might be better if you give it a nice name since you want it to be nice to you. People name their boats, actually they kinda have to name their boats by law, they proudly paint the side of their boat with the name and sail it. So why not paint the name of your car so everyone can see it as you drive by!

How to celebrate – Think up a good name for your car. Give names to the cars you pass on the road. Talk nicely to your car and be sure it knows it’s name.

October 2nd Name Your Car Day

We all so it, we name our cars like they are our best friends, or worst enemies. I guess it all depends on how they treat us, or how we feel they treat us. Some days they have really good names, and then there are those days where we cannot repeat the names we call them.

Some cars can have cute names like Minnie or Baby, Tiny or Squirt, Micro or Mighty Mouse! We all get the picture, these are small cars that get us where we are going but not much more. They are easy to park, get great gas mileage but are a bit cramped. It’s hard to fault them for too much because there isn’t a lot expected of them.

Then there are cars like Smoky here. You might think they are burning rubber but in reality they  are burning up the engine. It’s hard to fault the car because it did not burn up it’s own engine, the owner did, but I bet it was given a few choice names by the guy who burnt him up!

It’s also sort of funny cause when things are going right with our cars they seem to be given female names, when they go wrong they suddenly become males. This one looks like a Maizey to me. I bet it is a blur as it goes down the road.

Then there are cars named for their owners, like this one owned by Jay Leno. I have no idea what he calls it but I can imagine it being something like Jay 1 or Jaybird. I think I would call it Freedom or Joy or Look At How Rich I am.

How to celebrate – Give your car a name, something that can be used in mixed company. Maybe give it two names, one for the good days and one for the bad! When you are on a long road trip give the cars you see a name, try not to repeat yourself.
