Flipping a coin to help make a choice you might not otherwise be able to decide has been around since the days of Julius Caesar. It case you didn’t figure it out, the proper call was always “Heads”, anything else might cost you yours! This does not mean flipping a coin will always help you make the right choice, in fact you’ve only got a 50 percent chance of getting it right! That means you also have a 50% chance of getting it wrong. But, if it’s not all that important, you can use the flip of a coin to help you decide what to do and what not to do, or to start a football game.
How to celebrate – Make sure you have a coin for today. (They are getting more and more rare these days!) By a two headed coin and trick someone. You could flip a bill but it’s a little difficult to do.
Here’s a fun day! It’s time to evaluate your life. Has it been worthwhile? Does it have meaning? Have you contributed more than you’ve taken? I’m not sure this is a good idea considering what we are already dealing with. Wellcat.com created the day.
How to celebrate – Make a list of all the things you have contributed to life. Make a list of everything you have taken from life. Go back to bed and wake up tomorrow.
Today is all about being practical. Instead of trying to bull your way through something, just go around it. I mean, after-all, you probably wouldn’t come up to a lake and say “It’s in my way. so I am just going to go through it.”, would you? Okay, maybe a few of us would but most would elect to go around it. Walk through that wall, walk through a swamp filled with alligators, walk through a mine field… these are not good choices. So what it really is all about is making good choices, do the right thing rather than forcing a situation that you are pretty sure you can’t win or at least end well. In the mean time, it’s good exercise! Would you normally risk walking under a ladder?
How to celebrate – Walk around things that get in your way. Figure out what you are doing before you do it. Wear armor plating.
It is appropriate to celebrate Make Up Your Mind Day on New Years Eve. Going into the New Year you really should have a plan and the only way to have a plan is to make up your mind about what it is you want to do and how you want to go about making it happen.
We all have to make choices in our lives. Some are simple and easy to make, some are more difficult. Some of us like others to make those choices for us so we don’t want to be blamed or have the responsibility required to make those choices. Even when those choices are about personal conflict.
It is ha4rd to make a choice that could have a right or wrong effect. Should I have pizza or eggplant today is not really all that important. Should I marry someone and spend the rest of my life with them is. Sadly, today we treat something like getting married like we do choosing whether we are going to have pizza or eggplant.
Something like am I going to do drugs or not do drugs is a life changing choice. The truth is, once you start doing them, even the simple ones, make you a different person. Are you better or worse… I can’t say but you have made the choice to be someone other than who you are and who you were ever meant to be.
And the choices you make also effect those around you so try and keep them in mind as you make the choices you make. The New Year is coming, be all you can be and don’t settle for being something less, or more, than you are.
How to celebrate – Bring the New Year with those you love. Sometimes doing for someone else is doing for yourself. Choose wisely your choice to choose being wise.
Name Your Poison Day June 8th, 2018
National Name Your Poison Day
Name your poison has long been referred to from old pirate or old west days in historical legend. It is a bartenders way of asking what sort of drink do you want, since alcohol was considered poison. However, the truth of name your poison actually falls on making choices.
In many cases, no matter which choice you make you might end up losing. So the idea of choosing your poison means, since neither choice is a good one, which way will you go.
It falls right in with choosing between a rock and a hard place or choosing to teach by tough love.
How to celebrate – Go to a bar and “Name your poison”. Take the day to make some of tough decisions you have been waiting to make. Dress up like an old west pirate.
Name your poison started out as a pretty bad thing, we think. I mean, if your name was Socrates it would mean a whole lot more than just making a choice. But today we associate the saying most with making a choice on what drink you want to drink.
Rye, whiskey, rum, vodka… which will it be? Of course for a pirate, your choice would be rum. It’s just hard to imagine a pirate asking for a Shirley Temple… naturally Shirley Temple wasn’t around in their day making the choice a little easier (or was she?)
But choosing your poison isn’t really about alcohol, it’s about choice. Which way will you choose to go? You can go this way or that way and you can only hope you choose you make the right decision. Realize though, what is right for one may not be right for the other!
There are some choices you don’t want to have to make though and you certainly hope they are not made for you. The idea of name your poison doesn’t start out well in either case. Implying of course that neither choice is going to be particularly good since poison is still poison no matter which one you choose!
Well, pick the door you are going to open and go right in. After all, since you opened it, either you go in or whatever is in there is going to come out.
How to celebrate – Have a drink today choosing your own poison! Offer up a choice of “poison” to your friends or family. Throw a pirate party.
Finally, a day I don’t have to worry about. I never do anything right! Yes, it would be nice to do something right, actually allow what you have learned to serve some purpose, but it seldom happens.
That old saying, “I thought I was right once, but I was wrong” should not apply to today. It should be a day when everything you do is right, at least with someone, even if it is just yourself. In all reality though, it is very hard to be right with everyone. Someone will find exception to your being right.
About the only thing I can be right about is the fact that I am never right! But that is probably wrong as well. Can you imagine though, an entire day where everything you do is right!?! Yesterday was “Everything You do Is Wrong Day” so it only seems natural that the following day should be “Everything You Do Is Right Day”.
Look at it this way… you got a 50-50 chance. You will either be right, or you will be wrong! Of course, there is being sort of right, where you get half of what you are doing right while the other half is wrong.
Well, you got a chance. Just remember to bring your umbrella with you cause more likely than not, it’s gonna rain.
How to celebrate – Do only things you know are right. Ask the others around you what is right (atleast you stand a chance to make them happy). Only make right hand turns.
You’ve just spent a year doing whatever it is that you do. Are you happy? Are you doing what you want to do? Is your relationship where you want it to be? Are there still choices you can make? Of course there are, you just need to decide to make them.
If your job is not the job you want, then change it. If you aren’t happy doing what you are doing you will be doing yourself, and probably your employer a great service by changing. No one succeeds doing things they don’t like doing. If you find your calling it won’t even seem like work, it will be more a joy. Yes money is important, but as the old saying goes… it’s also the root of all evil. It doesn’t mean you or your family have to suffer, it means make a plan to get yourself into something that is worth while to you. Pick out something attainable and then work your way towards it.
If your relationship is not where you want it to be, work on it to make it right. Sometimes the littlest of changes will take it where you want it to go. People normally treat others the way they want to be treated. By example, if they offer you a back rub read it that they would like the same in return. People rarely choose for others what they would not choose for themselves. Seeing things for what they are can be more important than standing your ground because you think you are right. Is it more important to you to win a battle and lose a war?
They say change is always for the better. I’m not sure I buy that one, perhaps it would be better said slight change is always for the better. That often means changing yourself, not trying to change others. Change the way you look at things, the way you accomplish getting to the end, ask yourself how others see something before you take the final look yourself. If major change is required, then do it but make sure you know what you are giving up in order to gain what you hope to change.
The key to everything is being decisive. Don’t commit 50% to anything unless you are only looking to get 50% back. It means that you are equally okay with failing as you are with succeeding. And never look back, you can’t change the past, living in the past does nothing for you or anyone around you. There are many things in life I wish would have worked out different but they all led me to where I am now and that is a reality I have to deal with, so do you. It is far better to take one step forward instead of looking over you shoulder at what is behind you.
How to celebrate – With the New Year just around the corner, make a list of things you want to accomplish in the new year and accomplish them one step at a time. Learn to do something new. Whether it is dancing, drawing or writing it doesn’t matter, show yourself you are till capable of doing things you never thought you could. Make new friends. Don;t forget the old ones but expand your horizon as you look to make things better for yourself, and those around you.
