You know it’s a mess, it’s always a mess and it’s time to clean it up! Today is clean up your room day and it should be a prime target for your attention today. Every house I have ever known has had at least one day that is like a collection point for everything you don’t know what to do with but don’t want to throw out. As I have been repeatedly told, “if you haven’t used it for a year, get rid of it”. To some degree I agree, but I don’t play some of my guitars every year so does that mean I should get rid of them!?! I don’t think so! So in short, if that still applies, clean up the room so no one can complain to your about how messy it is.
How to celebrate – Clean up your room. Find someplace to keep those things you don’t quite know what to do with. Just buy a new house and start over.
Today should be respected as the day we give the household engineer a day off from their never ending work. This job is one of the most unappreciated jobs on the face of the earth. No one seems to notice when the house is clean but they sure can complain when it isn’t. And who is it that assigns what jobs who gets to keep a house clean? I mean, I am one of the worst in not noticing something needs to be clean so if you leave it to me, the house is going to be dirty a lot! So here’s to all the homemakers, take a day off, you deserve it!
How to celebrate – Put the housework off until tomorrow. Write up assignments for everyone to do every week. If you think it needs cleaning, clean it!
When we think of cleaning up rooms we naturally go to our children’s rooms which are always a mess. But lets examine this for a moment by looking at the above picture. This is the room our children see and while we tell them not to do as we do but to do as we say, it does not set a very good example. So maybe we should all clean up our rooms today, or at least some room in the house. Think of it as a treasure hunt as I am sure you will find things you thought lost forever and that alone should make the job rewarding enough! Clean up your room, you won’t regret it!
How to celebrate – Search for that room you left underneath everything you piled in it. Make clean up a party! (Although that could lead to more mess) Get a group together and tackle all the rooms of your house.
If you do clean out you refrigerator only once a year, this is the day. But if you only do it once a year you are going to find things in there you will not even remember. Perhaps because things will grow on their own in there! We all have the good intention to eat our left-overs but the fact is, there are many, many times we never get back to them. We often intend to drink that little bit of milk left over the morning before it went bad, but we don’t always get there. It’s sort of like that drawer we stash things into that we do not know what to do with but don’t want to get rid of. So today is the day to surprise yourself and find out what you have stashed in your refrigerator and rid yourself of them before Thanksgiving. (You’ll probably add a lot more then).
How to celebrate – Clean out your refrigerator. Hire someone to clean out your refrigerator. Make a discovery of some new creation evolving from your forgotten substances in the refrigerator.
You’ve been putting off. You know it needs to be done but still, there are so many other things you could do, like watch television, go have lunch, move a mountain over… which in many ways could be the same thing! It’s time to clean your room, make it presentable and maybe find a few of those lost items you’ve been looking for. Maybe even finding things you didn’t know you had! Admittedly kids are the worst, but adults don’t fall far behind. It is, after-all, your room and you should be able to keep it the way you want it, just close the door when guests come over and forget about something else on our list to do! The thing is, when we o clean our rooms we generally feel better about ourselves. Things in our life seem less complicated and easier to accept. So set your mind right today and start it out with a clean room, you’ll enjoy the change.
How to celebrate – Clean that room you’ve ignored. Treasure the items you thought you’d lost. Invite guests over to inspect your tidiness.
Who knows what you might find if you actually cleaned up your room. Money? Jewels? A lost relative? Maybe you can even find yesterdays lost sock! Anyway, the point is, it needs to be cleaned up… you know, I know and probably even the neighbors know it.
Now when one says their room, that does not necessarily mean it’s a bedroom. (Though it probably is) It could be any room in the house. The Bathroom, the garage, a game room… they all need to be cleaned. The best gauge for figuring what room needs it most is the room you can’t remember last cleaning!
Yes, you may need to use some chemicals and protective wear but it will be worth it. Just think how you will feel after you’ve cleaned it up, I mean after the tired and grumpy part. You will feel so much better about yourself that you might even invite friends over, proud to show them a room they never knew existed.
And you know when your dog starts to look at you like, “When are you going to do something about this” that maybe it’s gone a little too far. Or perhaps you may have lost a dog in there that you thought ran away from home! There is even a point when a dog gets tired of routing through all the dirty clothes, left over take out food and who knows what else might be in there?
So go on, clean it up and today is the day to do it. You’ll feel better, your whole family will feel better and even your pets will feel better. Either that, or leave it a move away so someone else can do it !
How to celebrate – Well, duh… clean up your room. Off to help someone clean their room if they will help you clean yours. See if you can find Jimmy Hoffa buried in there!
Okay, so our country is in a mess, the world is in a mess, our lives are in a mess and you really can’t do much about it. There is one thing you can make better, you can clean up your room (s) and actually accomplish something.
I sort of like cleaning up messy rooms. I mean if it’s my own mess I find things that I thought were long gone, and if it’s somebody’s then you never know what treasure you might find next. True, most of the surprises are things you really don’t want to find but occasionally there is that rare gems in there among the trash.
And once it is cleaned up it makes you feel so much better and you have that sense of accomplishment. “Look at what I did!” You can even give guided tours if you want!
Of course if you are a pack-rat like me, then you have some tough decisions to make. You simply can’t keep it all, something has to go. And just putting all of it into another room and trashing it is not an answer. This is truly what garage sales are made for.
I have been told that if you haven’t used the item in a year it’s time for it to go. The biggest problem with that is the stuff you haven’t used in a year is buried under all that stuff you have used in a year! If you sell it off at least you have gotten some value from it, money to probably buy more junk with! Well, whatever you are going to do, today is your day to start doing it!
How to celebrate [ Plan a garage sale to get rid of what you don;t need or want. Check your wardrobe for items that won;t even fit you anymore. (Yes, I know you are planning on losing weight and you may use it again but by then it will be so out of fashion you won’t want to be sen in it anyway! Have a clean up your room party! (Just make sure there is nothing in there that you don’t want found!)
If you have ever lost something and not been able to find it anywhere, look in the refrigerator. I have known people, not me of course, that have put their car keys, phone, and even their shoes in the refrigerator.
And while you are clearing it out of things you swore you would eat sometime, but never got around to, clean it! With all that rotted food you will create germs, perhaps even inventing new ones! I do not drink beer, just never developed the taste for it, but I kept some in the house for friends that do. There was one bottle that literally was in the refrigerator for 9 years! Clearly no one wanted to drink it! In fact, no one even wanted to touch it!
Even if it is neat and tidy, you still need to clean it. There are probably old bottles of condiments and pickles with mold growing on top of them. And all those doggie bags of food you bring home that you did not finish at the restaurant need to go too! Just assume that anything that has been there for the last two years is no longer any good. Obviously if you didn’t want it in the first couple of days, you don’t want it ten years later.
If you find your cat looking for a snack inside the refrigerator you know its time to clean it. Don’t just close the door on the cat, no matter how tempting it is. Left over cat is not all that tasty. And if the cat gets in there it’s because they can smell something they want, or want to kill. That’s a pretty clear indication that there is something in there that has gone bad.
And think how proud you will be when your refrigerator is clean! You may even want to leave the doors open so that you can show your friends! Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day was created by the good people at Whirlpool Home Appliances in 1999. I guess they are saying the equipment will work better if you do.
How to celebrate – Clean out your refrigerator today! Clean out you neighbor’s refrigerator today! If you are looking for something that has been missing for a long time, look in your refrigerator, it just might be there.
