The best dog, for friends and family, is a dog that loves you instead of thinking so highly of themselves. Of course we are the ones that teach them to be uppity and vain. That’s what I love about mutts. They are just here because they are a dog and want nothing more, or less, than being a dog. I suspect even show dogs would rather be a mutt if they had a choice. Yes, show dogs are beautiful and it’s sort of fun to watch them prance around but there is nothing like a dog dog that plays and has fun with it’s family.
How to celebrate – Take your dog mutt out for a walk. (You can’t do that with a show dog because they might get dirty) Let your dog roll around in the back yard. Just love your dog not expecting anything more than getting love back from them.
Here’s a day you don’t often get to celebrate, and maybe you don’t celebrate it at all but I am sure your dog does… and it doesn’t matter what country they come from or what country they live in. In fact, I doubt dogs know they might be anything different than you. If we treat them like a child, and most of us do, they probably don’t even know they are a dog. So reward them with a treat today and be thankful your dog appreciates it.
How to celebrate – Give your dog a biscuit. Learn to make your own biscuits. Treat your dog well.
This should really be every day of the year, not just the 20th of February, but if you have to put a day out there to remind you then I guess this day is just as good as any other. For the most part, you picked your pet and they fell in love with you because you cared for them. They may not always act the way you would like them to, but still, they love you, you should love them back; they really ask for little more. I have the greatest dog ever and it’s all because someone gave her up because she played with and tore up their shoes. Their loss, I won.
How to celebrate – Love your pet. Take them to a park unless they are a bird or another leash-less animal. Give your pet a special treat, just for them.
JANUARY Month National Train Your Dog Month
Dogs are our best friends, but they still need to be taught the rights and wrongs and what they are allowed to get away with by their owners. Normally, a dog that is trained is a happy dog since most dogs just want to please their masters. And you can train your dog to do a number of different things, some are tricks and some are considered work. Enjoy your dog and train them to be the best friend you’ve ever had.
How to celebrate – Teach your old dogs new tricks, Always use a reward system. Let your dog be a dog.
If you are a dog lover this day comes every day! Dogs are truly man’s best friend. That’s not holding anything against cats or birds or any other pet you choose to keep, But dogs and man go together like soup and sandwich, cookies and milk, pb & j… well you get the picture. I’m not sure one can survive without the other. Take care of your dog, love your dog, spend time with your dog and they will reward you time and time again. Today was created in 2004 by Colleen Paige, Pet Lifestyle Expert. And yes, the picture for today is the same as the one for yesterday because … well … it just seems to fit!
How to celebrate – Love your dog. Give your dog some special treats today. Make friends with your best friend all over again today.
Pure bred dogs are pretty to look at for sure but if you want to have a fun, loyal dog you are by far better off with a Mutt! it is estimated that 8 out of 10 dogs are mixed breeds, I doubt they really care. Most are really smart, most are really fun and most love you for you just being you. Unless you are looking to breed you dog or show them at a dog show, who cares about how “pure” they are!?! People aren’t all that “Pure”, why does your dog have to be. Dogs are meant to be a friend, not a show toy that only makes us feel better, not them. Today was created by Collen Paige in Los Angles, California in 2005.
How to celebrate – Love your dog. Love your dog. Love your dog.
July 15th National Pet Fire Safety Day
Today was created to bring awareness to pet owners about what to do in a fire. We have N escape plan for the humans, do you habe one for your furbabies too…. But pets have also been known to protect people from fire too. Dogs seem to be the best at this, maybe because they are more sensitive to our needs and share many of those needs as well. The Dalmatian is recognized as one of the top fire dogs but oddly not because of it’s response to humans but how horses react to them. Back when horses were used to pull the fire engines Dalmatians were used to keep the horses calm.
How to celebrate – Read about the different animals that have rescued humans from fire. Read about the history of the Dalmatian. Discover what other animals have been used for fire detection.
Why have a pet if you aren’t going to love them? They pretty much love you whether you are nice to them or not. I do love animals, and I have lot of them – cats and dogs (all rescues). Not so thrilled about snakes as pets but I do understand a lot of people love their snakes. You should show your pet love everyday, but maybe love them a little extra today. More treats, more hugs and though they probably don’t understand what you are saying, they do love it when you talk to them.
How to celebrate – Love your pets. List as many pet types as you can without looking. Adopt a pet if you get a chance.
In 1952 Richard Nixon, then candidate for Vice President, was accused of taking a bribe… it was a dog given to his daughters. The dog’s name was Checkers and it was valued at a thousand dollars. (Some expensive dog for 1952!) Nixon, instead of fighting the accusations by the democrats, went to the public giving a speech about the dog and his children, on September 23rd, 1952. It is considered one of the best speeches ever given and Nixon kept the dog and won over the American people as well. Was it a bribe? Who knows, who cares? It was a dog and children, both who loved each other.
How to celebrate – Read about politics in 1952. Learn about Checkers the dog. Who is your “dog” in the race?
Created by the National Dog Day Foundation whose motto is “Saving 10,000 Dogs – One Day at a Time.” Anybody who reads the blogs I do on a regular basis knows I love dogs. I truly believe they are man’s best friend. They are able to serve us in so many ways but I think the main purpose they serve is just to love us humans. Save a dog if you are able, you won’t regret it. They will be your friend forever. It may take a little effort, particularly if it’s a rescue dog because you don’t know what they have been through or how they have been treated. Give them a chance and they will reward you beyond what you can ever imagine.
How to celebrate – Rescue a dog. Give your dog a special treat today. Take your best friend for a special outing today. Take plenty of pictures.
