March 12th Plant A Flower Day

With winter on it’s way out and spring on the way in, it’s time to think about planting things that make our lives more beautiful and rewarding. Since the general act of growing most flowers is relatively simple it is a great way to brighten up our yards and put a smile on someone’s face. That’s not to say it doesn’t require some care and effort, planting anything takes at least a little care, watering and weeding. But with just a little effort on our part, we can add to the beauty of life and make the world a better place to live.

How to celebrate – Plant some flowers today. Make sure the ground isn’t frozen. Tend your garden.

October 12th Old Farmer’s Day

Farmer’s are among the hardest workers in any country these days but in the past, wow… life was even harder. There are certain things that wisdom is granted to the aged that just cannot be handed down, that smell in the air, the feel of the soil, the taste of a plant that reveals more than any book could ever tell anyone, particularly about being a farmer. So why celebrate old farmers? Why celebrate anything old? They known more, have experienced more and had to work harder to get the same results. Just remember, a farmer in 2021 will be an old farmer in 2050 and surely things will have become easier by then as well. Today was created sometime back in the mid-1800’s when Old Farmers were still old farmers!

How to celebrate – Visit a farm. Become a farmer. Study the equipment improvement for farmers over the years.

April 6th California Poppy Day

California’s “fields of gold” have been cherished by Californians since they first were discovered. Though the flower was admired for hundreds of years it did not become the state flower until March 2, 1903. In 1996 Governor Pete Wilson created California Poppy Week on May 13th-18th and finally in 2010 the California State Senate made April 6th, via bill 37222.12, officially California Poppy Day. I hear the fields are amazing, many plan on visiting California as the Poppy Fields bloom.

How to celebrate – Plan on visiting California when the poppy fields are blooming. Plant your own field of poppy flowers. Figure out exactly what a poppy is?
