May 14th National Windmill Day

The Netherlands top the world’s Windmill structures with 1,200 left, though most are not working anymore. Holland adds another 950, where many are still working! So today is a actual holiday in those two countries and has been since sometime in 2000, though no one seems to know exactly who created it. Of course windmills were created to help grind and process grains or any other materials that needed to be crushed. The Netherlands and Holland were logical for them since they were pretty much constantly supplied with wind coming off the North Sea.

How to celebrate – Visit the Netherlands or Holland, or both. Build your own windmill. Learn how to grind grain into a powder.

February 24th National Toast Day

February 24th National Toast Day

This day is celebrated on the last Thursday of February so the dates will change. This year it’s on the 24th obviously. The day was created back in 2014 by the Tiptree World Bread Awards in the UK. Since then it has world wide and celebrated nearly every place bread is available, which means, everywhere! It’s a simple enough item to make, you just need bread and fire and that has been around for over 8,000 years according to historians.

How to celebrate – Make your own bread. Figure out which brand of bread is your favorite. Learn how to make fire.
