Today implies that you do something nice for someone else, human or animal. But it falls short of actually saying that so it could also mean doing something nice for yourself. Treat yourself to a nice meal or a pair of shoes you’ve been looking at. Go someplace you’ve been wanting to go but haven’t gotten around to yet. May even include someone with you as you treat yourself to something nice making it something nice for them too. You’ll feel better for it, whether it’s for yourself or someone else.
How to celebrate – Make a list of something nice you can do for someone else.. Make a list of something nice you can do for yourself. Make today a very special day.
I know a lot of people who argue just so they can kiss and make-up. Not a really good idea in my opinion but to each their own. We all do things that make people mad, when we make a loved one mad it seems even harder to correct that mistake so I never suggest doing something you know will make your loved one mad. And you really don’t have to wait until there is a problem to kiss, sometimes maybe a kiss can even save a problem from coming up in the first place. Jacqueline V. Milgate created today suggesting that we “Kiss and Make Up”. Well, it’s her birthday so I guess we can try to make it a special day and pretend we are mad, just so we can kiss and make up.
How to celebrate – Kiss someone you are mad at. (This could get awkward) Remember why you fell in love with someone instead of what they did to make you mad. Do not try and kiss an electric eel.
We want all those around us to be happy and we more often than not, try to do the things that would make them happy. While we do truly want our loved ones and friends to be happy it is also true that it is really difficult for us to be happy unless those around us are happy. So maybe it’s a little selfish after all that we celebrate a day like today by wanting to make someone else happy because, it is what (In the end) will make us happy too.
How to celebrate – Try and find ways to make your mate, friends and family happy. Try to keep yourself happy. Do what you can to make the world a better place.
Today was created during a time of war. The war was the 1973 war between Egypt and Israel and Brian and Michael McCormack wanted to find a way to help people to get along with each other. Their idea was basic, if you stop and say “hello” to at least ten strangers during the day everyone would have a better day. Perhaps an overly simple plan but it is a great plan for making contact with another human and that is a great step forward. Something so simple as saying hello, hi or good morning can change the shape of their day, and your day.
How to celebrate – Say “hello” to ten people today you do not know. (You can say hello to more than ten) Find something to like about everyone you come across today. Make this day the start of every day for the rest of your life.
Like it or not, children watch adults and learn both good, and bad, habits. I think it’s safe to say that we all want to see healthy and happy children but we more often that not live the old adage that says, “do as I say, not as I do”.
Child Health Day was created as directed by a joint resolution by Congress and the President of the United States in 1928. Originally the day was May 1st as declared by President Calvin Coolidge but in 1960 changed to the 1st Monday in October.
The celebration should be among all of us though, not just the children. Yes, it is a great day to make us aware of keeping our children healthy, but we need to show them by doing what we ask them to do. So consider your life as an example. If you smoke, your children are likely to smoke, if you over eat, your children are likely to over eat. If you do not exercise, your children are likely not to exercise.
Eating really starts the effort to be healthy. Eating correctly gives you more energy to exercise, have an active mind and sleep better. Though you can become obsessed with being healthy it will generally lead to being happier, which in turn makes you healthier.
Believe it or not, working at a job you enjoy also affects the health of your children. If you are always depressed, stressed out, and generally unhappy, your child will copy these emotions in their every day life. So, if you take care of yourself, you are also taking care of your child. Yes, we all want our children to be healthy and happy but do we think about the fact that it all starts with a grown up!
How to celebrate – Teach your child to eat healthy. Play outside with your child instead of sharing a video game. Show your child the positive side of things instead of being negative.
