Did you know there is a type of deer native to the Florida Keys? In fact, the deer is named for those Keys, they are the Key Deer. They are a very small deer which helps them hide but have little defense and were hunted until there were only 50 left in the wild by the early 1940’s. Today is used to bring about awareness of them in the hopes that their number will never drop so low again. There are some 1,000 in the wild today thanks to people helping them and leaving them alone to flourish. Just a gentle animal should have a chance in this world like the rest of us.
