January 26th Spouse’s Day

Today is one of the many days we are supposed to pay attention to our spouses. Actually we should do that all the time anyway but I suppose the occasional reminder doesn’t hurt. It goes along with Valentine’s Day, Anniversaries, Birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, first date dates, favorite songs, favorite colors, ah… just add today to the list and to protect yourself just make every day spouse’s day!

How to celebrate – Find things about your spouse that you admire and remind yourself of them every time you get mad at them. Be thankful for your spouse. Send your spouse a thank you card.

August 25th Kiss And Make Up Day

First, this day implies you are having some sort of a fight with your loved one and that by kissing you will make up for whatever was wrong. It would be nice if that actually happened, but it it doesn’t. Now before you think I’m getting all negative I just propose you don’t get angry in the first place! Okay, so I know that’s not being real. But maybe instead of disagreeing with your mate you could just kiss and pretend whatever made to mad never happened! So let’s work towards just a kiss day and leave it at that. Today was created by author Jacqueline V. Milgate on her birthday.

How to celebrate – Just don’t get mad! Kiss for the right reasons. Be happy.

January 26th Spouses Day

Remember all that effort you use to put into Valentine’s Day? Well most of that came before you got married. So how about afterwards? That’s sort of what Spouses Day is. It lets you reflect how much you still love that person and how much they really mean to you. I’m as guilty as the next person of letting a lot of that romance go, and with it Valentine’s Day is a good reminder of all the effort before marriage. Spouses Day is a day to think about all they continue to do for you, and you for them.

How to celebrate – Take your spouse to lunch today. Plan a romantic get away for today. Just spend time with your mate.

September 20th Wife Appreciation Day

Remember that lady in white that was once your girlfriend and is now your life partner? Ya, your wife. Well you should appreciate her every day but in case you don’t, today is a day set aside to just do that. It always falls on the third Sunday in September so you have no real excuse for forgetting it. I hope I remember when the day comes around. (Yes, I do these in advance of the actual date so I never really know what day it is… ever) Anyway, if you do have a wife today is the day to show you appreciate all she does and to maybe give her a break having to do it. You know she makes you a better person, whether you want to be or not!

How to celebrate – Take your wife to lunch. Give your wife the entire day off from normal duties. Gifts are nice but nor required.

April 28th Kiss Your Mate Day

I think this day could talk on all sorts of different meaning depending on where you live. For example, if you are here in the US that could include anyone you love. But in Australia, it could mean something else entirely. Anyway, you’ll need to figure out who your mate is and then give them a kiss. (Hopefully this won’t require a thought) Kisses show passion, caring and the willingness to share. (And the proper use of breath mints) So pucker up, get those lips working and make it a day worth remembering. Like in that old song, a kiss is just a kiss… blah blah blah blah blah. Or something like that.

How to celebrate – Kiss your mate. (Australia can review this suggestion) Spend some time with your mate. Build a mate out of Legos.

February 14th Valentine’s Day

We can thank the Romans for today as they honored their God of Fertility at the Feast of Lupercalia. We celebrate love today by giving gifts to the person we love. It seems old hat that we give candy or flowers, but what is older than love? It does make me wonder what Adam gave Eve for Valentine’s Day, but then the Romans hadn’t been around yet so maybe he lucked out because I don’t think candy had been invented yet. Maybe he gave her a new fig leaf. Anyway, give your loved one a reminder that you love them and that your life would not be the same without them.

How to celebrate – Honor the one you love. Give some original thought gift. Visit Rome.

April 28th Kiss Your Mate Day

Well here’s a day we can all find some value in. (Or at least most of us) Kiss Your Mate Day. I think this should work for all of us unless perhaps you work on a ship. How long has it been since you kissed your mate? I don’t mean the little peck on the cheek saying good morning or good night. The longer you are married generally the less you kiss. The norm seems to be that the long one is married the less passion there is in the relationship. While I don’t believe this is true, the less open display of affection is required. Note I did not say needed. I know I am loved, I know I love, to show that is no longer a requirement… but that said, it is still nice to know that, at times, that expression is shown in more than a nice dinner, a smile and a knowing glance.

How to celebrate – Kiss your mate. No, kiss them like you mean it! Avoid pirate ships today.

April 28th Kiss Your Mate Day

Today might mean something a little different in Australia but for most of us it means, kiss the one you love. Not that you can’t love your mate in Australia but… This is the day that you demonstrate to your loved one how much they mean to you by a simple, or more complex, kiss.

It sort of makes me wonder where kissing came from. I sort of think it comes from that old adage, “shut up and kiss me”! But who knows for sure. It has been a way to express you love for someone, the more passionate, the more love I suppose. It sure beats the heck out of telling someone how you feel cause words never seem to be adequate.

I mean, it’s something even most animals do! Naturally, they may be licking the last meal off their mates lips but sharing is good! We humans have tasty lip gloss, use various mouthwashes and use other means in order that our mate find our offering more appealing. And I guess that’s important. Ever kiss someone who has just eaten an onion or garlic!

And when we are young we find kissing yuckie! I think it’s because we don’t really know what it means, or maybe we do… but either way, as we mature we look for as many kisses as we can. And really, even though today is the day we celebrate it you should kiss your mate as often as you get the opportunity.

A kiss offers up romance and the better the kiss, the more romance. I am sure we all envision our kisses being some magic potion that sends our loved one into a world of fantasy and passion. Probably not true but we can dream! “You must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss, the fundamental things apply, as time goes by.”

How to celebrate – Kiss your mate, even if you are in Australia. Enter a kissing contest. Serve at the kissing booth at a carnival.
