While celebrated on September 18th officially, today really should be appreciated every day of the year. Wives make homes and families possible, no matter how much many men try to get the job done, they are not anywhere as capable as most women. While we have Mother’s Day not all wives are mothers, so we should celebrate them for who they are, not what they are. Even if they are mothers they still deserve the thanks and appreciation from their mates and families. Today is always celebrated on the third Sunday in September.
How to celebrate – Appreciate your wife. Take your wife to dinner, no kids, just her. Try and make your wife’s day as easy as you can.
Sept. 6th National Lazy Moms Day
The first Friday of September is National Lazy Moms Day. You really should allow them this one day because I have never met any lazy moms. They deserve at least one day to themselves. If you think of all the things your mom does for you, 365 days a year, one day really isn’t asking much. All those meals, washing clothes, driving you somewhere, listening to your troubles, doing your homework, and the countless other thousands of things earns her today. Moms never get the credit they are due, so let them have today to themselves.
How to celebrate – Treat your mom like a queen today. Take
your mom to lunch. Talk with your mom, even if you have no idea what she is
Today we celebrate parents. Those who guide us and help us achieve our goals. Are they perfect? Is anyone perfect? Since no two people are the same it is impossible to take others experiences and say they have all the answers. Parents don’t either but they try, bending themselves to help us become the people we are. No one knows exactly who created today, some think it was a candy company to sell more products but it is not Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, it is a day to recognize all of what our parents do for us and as individuals themselves. Bill Clinton proclaimed the day in 1994, the 4th Sunday of July. It is a time to honor our parents for doing the best they could and recognizing that we are better for it.
How to celebrate – Take your parents to lunch if you are lucky enough to still have them. List all the things you can remember that you know your parents did for you. Do a family tree.
The one person we really do everything to is our mother. Of course their are good mothers and bad mothers but she is where life begins and without her, none of us would be here. Today is the day we set aside to honor her since the first Mother’s Day in 1908 in Philadelphia. But really we should honor her every day. The day always falls the 2nd Sunday in May so the date may change but the idea of it never does. And really, today shouldn’t be restricted to just one day, it should be every day of the year. Whether it is Mother Nature, the Mother of Invention or just your own mom, honor her for all she has given you since before you were even born.
How to celebrate – Let your mom know you love her. Take your mom someplace special today. Make something for your mom just like you did when you were young. (It will mean more)
They say you can’t choose your relatives, which is very true. However, you have to remember they couldn’t choose you either! So you might as well make do with the best and at least say hello every once in a while, like today.
If your family tree is anything like mine there will be a few surprises here and there. After all, my family tree indicates that I am a long lost relative to Robin Hood. The fact that Robin Hood is fictional does bother me a little, does this mean I was born into a family of cartoon? Could be, I have had many people tell me I was a joke.
But good or bad, I’m not as unusual as my uncle. (No the photo above is not really of my uncle). In fact I was very afraid of my uncle. He was a nearly 7 foot tall, Blackfoot Native American, bald headed and a General in the Marine Corp. Though I was afraid of him, I did admire him as well. So see, there is something good in everybody… you just have to look for it sometimes.
My Aunt Clover was another character I both admired and thought (To myself) gee, what an off person. (And no this isn’t her either although I wouldn’t put this sort of thing beyond her) The point is, they are probably just as embarrassed of us as we are of them. So embrace they oddities and remember they are family. Good, bad or indifferent we can’t do anything about that and they will be gone all too soon. Who knows, maybe they will leave you a million dollars if you just as so much say “hello”.
How to celebrate – Visit a relative today. If it is practical to go to them, write them a letter, give them a call or email them. Look for the best in all your relatives.
