February 17th Random Acts Of Kindness Day

The old saying, “What goes around comes around” often comes back to haunt us. Whatever we do to, say to or how we act towards someone generally comes back to us, it’s not so good if we have been mean or nasty, but it doesn’t have to be that way if we just practice a few random acts of kindness. It doesn’t take much and you don’t have to do a lot, just be nice to someone… maybe just a smile or opening a door. We have forgotten a lot about random acts of kindness due to all the political correctness these days. So often we forget to be kind because we are trying to hard to prove some point that doesn’t need to be made.

How to celebrate – Do something nice for someone without them having to ask. Watch for an opportunity to be kind. Remember even animals need kindness.

October 5th Do Something Nice Day

Today implies that you do something nice for someone else, human or animal. But it falls short of actually saying that so it could also mean doing something nice for yourself. Treat yourself to a nice meal or a pair of shoes you’ve been looking at. Go someplace you’ve been wanting to go but haven’t gotten around to yet. May even include someone with you as you treat yourself to something nice making it something nice for them too. You’ll feel better for it, whether it’s for yourself or someone else.

How to celebrate – Make a list of something nice you can do for someone else.. Make a list of something nice you can do for yourself. Make today a very special day.

December 4th Santa’s List Day

So, have you been nice all year or have you been naughty? Sometimes being naughty is nice but being nice is never being naughty! Well, it’s time for Santa to break out his list and make good for those who have been nice and give that lump of coal for those who have been naughty. I bet there was a time in history when getting a lump of coal was actually welcomed! Anyway, that’s not the point. The point is about being good over bad as being good is always subject to ones point of view. Since it is somewhat up to the opinion of the receiver at least try to be good to your family and friends, they are the ones who get you gifts anyway… and try to be nice to your enemies too… maybe they have a reason for being bad.

How to celebrate – Who would you put on a nice list…naughty list. The question is not whether you think you’ve been good or not, it’s how others see you. Make a list of what you consider naughty, and nice.

February 17th Random Acts of Kindness Day

This is, of course, a made up day but shouldn’t it be real? Our lives would be so much better if it was made up of random acts of kindness both given, and taken. So why can’t we be nice to each other? I honestly don’t know. Maybe it’s because we want to keep up with the Jones’ or maybe it makes us feel superior… I really don’t know. It is what is in each person’s head and heart that makes this gifts available. Kindness always wins people over, hate and jealousy never accomplish anything good.

How to celebrate – Try being kind to everyone today. Realize people are often being very kind to you even though it may seem like they have done nothing. Kindness is a way of life.

January 24th Compliment Day

We all can find the faults in each other, and in ourselves. Today is the day to look for the good things in people and I am sure we can all find things we like about each other. The one, however, that we really need to find something to compliment is ourselves. We more often than not find things wrong with ourselves that we tend to hang on to. Try starting the day by complimenting yourself. Today was created by Kathy Chamberlin and Debby Hoffman both of New Hampshire. You think maybe they called each other to share their compliments today back in 1998?

How to celebrate – Finding something to compliment someone on. Make your greeting a compliment. Make a list of things you like about yourself.

December 4th Santa’s List Day

What a day. Did you make the Nice or Naughty list? Kids worry about it, adults don’t really care which list they made and seniors don’t even remember the list. Then if you did make the naughty list is there anything you can do to get put on the nice list? Well, of course, we adults know you can. In fact, we do things all year long that could qualify us to be on both lists. People are famous for making lists, we all do it even if it’s just a grocery list. Only Santa makes a list of the bad things we do though. Most of us list those things we are proud of, not the things we would rather forget.

How to celebrate – Pretend you are Santa and make your list. Make a list of all the list you make up. Figure out what you think is naughty and what is nice.
