We all know at least one Peculiar person don’t we? Maybe we are that one peculiar person someone else knows! There is normally nothing wrong with a peculiar person, or at least we hope there isn’t. They are just odd for some reason or the other. It may be the way they speak or the things they do, they may collect peculiar things or watch odd movies but it’s still okay, well most of the time anyway. Live and let live I say… but don’t quote me because someone wiser said that before me! Enjoy the people around you even with their faults, after-all… you may be odd in their eyes too!
How to celebrate – Figure out who that peculiar person is that you know. List what others might find peculiar about you! Enjoy people for who they are.
There seem to be a lot of strange days in November and today is no exception, it’s Absurdity Day. Of course, something considered absurd really does fall to the individual and what they consider absurd. It may seem quite normal to someone else. However, should you choose to observe today as a holiday you may want to list those things you consider to be odd enough to make your absurd list, which if you think about it, is sort of something absurd to do in itself.
How to celebrate – Determine what you consider to be absurd. Form a club to consider what is absurd and what isn’t. Make a list of absurdities.
If you like to stand out in a crowd, wear something gaudy. As an example, in the 1970’s “Three’s Company” television show Richard Kline, played by Larry Davis, always wore very bright clothing that didn’t always match. He actually declare a gaudy clothing day to fit his character. There is nothing wrong with standing out in a crowd and showing your bad taste is your choice! Besides, who is it that makes up the rules as to what is gaudy and what isn’t? It certainly isn’t me!
How to celebrate – Wear something gaudy today. Watch a re-run of “Three’s Company”. See how many outfits you can make up that don’t match at all out of your wardrobe.
Have you ever had an event occur on a day and wondered why that day or why that event? Well today is your day to ponder that a little more. It’s all about those current events going on around you that are celebrated for seemingly no reason at all. Now these are days that are not readily explained to everyone, like Christmas or Halloween. These are days and events that seem to come up out of nowhere and now exist for no reason at all. Like all people that want to be recognized as normal but throw events taking pride in the fact that they aren’t normal. Naturally we have no clue what normal actually is but even then, throwing a special event to show you aren’t “normal” while trying to blend into society is just a bit… curious.
How to celebrate – Look for Curious Events. Make a list of days you’d like to celebrate that aren’t celebrated. Just accept everything, you are going to have to sooner or later.
What a great day to come right after Saint Patrick’s Day! Awkward moments day! I don’t know about you but I am likely to have had a few of them yesterday and not even known it! Today we embrace those moments where something we didn’t have planned, likely embarrassing, occurred. There is nothing you can do about it so you might as well enjoy it the same way others do! It’s time to get over it and realize you are not the first person that sort of thing ever happened to so… smile, deal with it and get on with your day. So is today about remembering those moments and suffering through them, or forgetting about them and letting them go? Your choice!
How to celebrate – Try remembering your most embarrassing moments. Try to ignore others most embarrassing moments. Live and let live.
Would you rather be like everyone else in the world or would you rather be considered… peculiar? Most of us think of peculiar as being bad but it doesn’t have to be. It can also mean someone who is just out of step with the rest of the world and sometimes that can actually be good. Would you call Albert Einstein peculiar? How about Martin Luther King? Jesus? Mohamed? Buddha? Accept your own, and others, uniqueness as a good thing with possibilities instead of something bad and limiting. After all, those who are the most peculiar are generally the most interesting as well.
How to celebrate – Learn what makes you peculiar to others. Celebrate your oddities. Live and let live.
If you are scared of the number 13 you have Triskaidekaphobia. Personally, I am afraid of that word! It is believed that Friday the 13th got off to a bad start as the day that Able killed Cain. At least it was a bad day for Cain. The Code of Hammurah omitted the 13th when it came to making laws. Many buildings do not have a 13th floor (well they do have but they don’t label one as such). And Captains would not put to sea if they had a crew of 13. So if today is bad luck for you, even though we generally make our own bad luck, then you might want to avoid doing much today. If you meet a guy named Jason, run!
How to celebrate – Go back to bed and wait for the 14th. Observe Backwards Day today making it the 31st. Just get through your day anyway you can.
Peculiar People make our days interesting. Who know, maybe someone even considers us peculiar. Peculiar people are the kind of people that books are written about, movies are made of and help make the world go round. Some peculiar people are bad, some are good but most are just like you and me, and I guess I am proud of being peculiar. If you think of what peculiar actually means, I think most of us want to be, and are, peculiar. After-all, what good is it if we are exactly the same? So take pride in who you are, what you do or how you think, even if its different than everybody else. So long as you do not force your ways on others it will make their lives better too.
How to celebrate – Enjoy being different. Respect others. Make a list of what you think makes you different than everyone else.
Nov. 20th Absurdity Day
Can you imagine a world where ever T was crossed and every I was doted? Where everyone wore the same clothes, spoke the same language, and ate the same foods? To me, that would be absurd. What do you consider absurd? Is it some one who dresses in strange clothes or wears their hair in different colors. I admit that is not my cup of tea either. But, they, just as I, have the right to think the way they want, dress the way they want, and to do the unexpected from time to time. Without these absurdities we would all be the same. I don’t always like them, sometimes I totally disagree with them, but we have the right to be as absurd as we want to be… when I don’t like it, I’ll just look the other way.
How to celebrate – Live and let live. Try something you’ve never done before. Make a list of things you think others might find absurd about you.
You know, the history of many of these days is interesting and somewhat unusual. I find today very odd since it was sort of created by the character Larry Davis (Actor Richard Kline) on the television show “Three’s Company”. Now Larry always wore something gaudy, at least by the standards of today. In a place like New York City probably no one would ever notice. Gaudy can also be described as unusual. By example most Halloween costumes are gaudy. So if you normally wear something others describe as a Halloween outfit then you are certainly dressing gaudy. Maybe it’s you style, maybe it’s you character, maybe it’s because you’ve forgotten to laundry for a week!
How to celebrate – Wear something gaudy today. Wear really large jewelry today. Stand out in a crowd today.
