How to celebrate – Make a new friend. Hang out where people do things you like to do. Take a chance.

August 26th National Dog Day

So anybody that knows me knows I love dogs. They are truly our very special friends so long as we treat them at least half way decently. They seem to love us unconditionally, stay by our sides in good times and bad and always off a smile, handshake or just a hug when times are rough. Yes, I am well aware there are some bad dogs out here too but generally speaking, the only reason they are bad is because we abuse them or train them to hate instead of love. If you give a dog just a minute of your time, they will give you a lifetime of theirs

How to celebrate – Love your dog. Rescue a dog if you don’t already have one. Treat your dog well and they will treat you equally as well. (If not more so).

July 10th Teddy Bear Picnic Day

No one seems to know where this day originated. It could have been from a television show back in the 1950’s called “Teddy Bear Picnic” but since no one seems to remember it or have any idea why it might be on July 10th it doesn’t really matter. Still, why not take your teddy bear on a picnic? It doesn’t argue with you, thinks you are the greatest thing in the world and is always there for you. So maybe it does deserve a picnic of it’s own… after-all, it doesn’t eat much!

How to celebrate – Take your teddy bear on a picnic. If you don’t have a teddy bear, buy one. Make sure you name your teddy bear something cool.

June 8th Best Friends Day

Do you have a best friend? You know that person you can share anything with and they don’t judge you or try to make you change? The person you share things with, secrets with and hopes and dreams with? Most people would say their best friend is their mate, their dog or a brother or sister. They very well can be your best friend but a friend doesn’t have to be a soul mate. They have common interest, like to do similar activities and sometimes, just hang out together. The funny thing is they don’t choose you, and you don’t chose them. It just sort of happens. If you can figure out who that person or animal is, this is the day you honor them.

How to celebrate – Spend some time with your best friend today. Figure out who your best friend is. Take your best friend to lunch.

June 2nd – National Bubba Day

Well if you like nicknames today ought to be one of your favorites, it’s National Bubba Day!. We almost all think of Bubba as some country boy, maybe a farmer, not as smart as the log he sits on. In truth, the only actual language that includes Bubba as an official title is Yiddish… it means ‘grandmother’. Sort of changes your image, doesn’t it!?! We probably use Bubba as a short for buddy, though it’s not any shorter. Sort of makes you wonder about characters such as Bubba Smith, the professional football defensive tackle who was once the terror of all quarterbacks! If they only knew he was named after a grandmother!

How to celebrate – Start calling your grandmother ‘Bubba”. Think twice about anyone you give the nickname Bubba to. Try to remember all the Bubba’s you’ve met in your life.

February 11th National Make A Friend Day

You can never have too many friends. Some move away, some get mad and go away, some die, few do you keep for a lifetime. If you do have that sort of friend, do whatever you have to do to keep them. The biggest thing to remember is that to get a friend you have to be a friend. Be willing to give as much, or more than you receive.

Some times it’s hard for you to know who really is a friend and who isn’t until you need their friendship. So remember that the next time they need you. “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” If you are lucky enough to have a life long friend, do what you have to do to keep them.

How to celebrate – Take your friend to lunch. find out if your friend needs anything before they have to ask. See if there are any new friends you can make today.
