May 30th Water A Flower Day

Hopefully April brought you those showers that brought your May flowers but now it’s up to you to make sure your flowers get watered! Everything in nature requires water to live, your flowers are no exception. (Even a cactus needs some water) You can set up a sprinkler to come on every day by timer or you can go out with a watering can and water them yourself, which may be good for you and better for your flowers! Watering your plants actually allows you time to spend with them and, at least in some cases, your flowers to spend time with you. It’s a good mix.

How to celebrate – Water your plants. If you don’t have any flowers, water your neighbors plants. Talk to your flowers as you water them, for some unknown reason it seems to help them.

April 29th Peace Rose Day

April 29th Peace Rose Day

Somewhere between 1935 and 1939, French horticulturist Francis Meilland developed a new rose he wanted to share with the world. Knowing World War 2 was about to begin and that his work would probably be destroyed, he sent cutting of the rose to Italy, Turkey, Germany and the US. In France it was known as the “Madame A. Meilland”, in Italy the “Gioia” (Meaning joy) in Germany the Gloria Dei (Glory to God) and in the US it became known as the Peace Rose because of its association with the End of World War 2 in Europe on April 29th, 1945.

How to celebrate – Grow your own Peace Rose. Read about Francis Meilland. Plant a rose garden.

March 12th Plant A Flower Day

With the weather hopefully getting better these days, it’s time to think about what you can do to make your yard beautiful again. One of the best ways to do that is by planting flowers. They add color to any yard, normally make things smell better and make people stop and take notice. Rose bushes, sunflowers, gardenias… it doesn’t really matter. (That is unless you are allergic to them) Make the world a prettier place by planting flowers today, you won’t regret it and neither will your neighbors.

How to celebrate – Figure out which flower is your favorite and plant them. Mix up a variety of flowers in different beds in your yard. Have a flower growing contest.
