October 8th American Touch Tag Day

We celebrate Touch Tag Day here in the Americas on the first Saturday in October. I suppose this means that other continents celebrate it on other days, or not at all. We human give ourselves credit for creating today but did we really? If you look at dogs, for example, it appears they have been playing tag with each other for centuries. I am sure other animals play tag as well. It’s a very simple game to play, no tools required. It does help to be fast though.

How to celebrate – Play tag with someone. (Just make sure they know you are playing tag with them) Watch dogs play tag. (Or at least their version of it.) Make up the rules to your own game of tag.

October 8th American Touch Tag Day

Remember when you were a child and you couldn’t fins anything better to play so you decided you would chase your friends around and try to touch them, or they touch you? Guess today that may be outta place. Still, kids do it. The fastest always win, the slowest and heaviest generally lose but you sort of know that going into it. Even if you are a good dodger you are eventually gonna get tagged if you aren’t fast enough. There use to be something about being called “it” that was upsetting. Of course today we are supposed to call each other “it”. So I guess even as we get older we still are playing tag, just with new rules.

How to celebrate – Get a neighborhood game of tag going. Be proud to be “it”. Watch where you put those hands!!!

October 8th American Touch Tag Day

It use to be if you tagged someone everyone knew you were playing the child’s game of tag. Now tag means a whole lot more. It can mean tagging someone to talk, targeting someone with a weapon, getting someone out in baseball… and so much more. I guess that’s why we now call it Touch Tag Day, of course the touching part is subject to question. Weren’t things so simple when you were a child!?! Well, maybe not for the slowest member of your childhood friends who are still trying to catch someone even today! So, “Tag, your it!”

How to celebrate – Play tag (rough to do when you have to stay six feet apart). Remember your childhood games. Try paint ball tag.

October 8th American Touch Tag Day

Kids have been playing tag since time began. At first it was probably out of fear as playing tag with a dinosaur wouldn’t be much fun. The game requires no tools or devices to play, only the energy to run around seemingly aimlessly. It is a fun game unless you are really slow, that tends to always make you “it” and there is little chance of capturing someone else to end your turn. (I know, I was that kid!) Still, it is better than just standing still and doing nothing and it is great exercise! Maybe adults should play tag to get themselves back into shape! Since there is an American tag day I have to assume every country has it’s own day of tag. Except maybe those places where running from someone is believed to be a pretense to criminal activities.

How to celebrate – Play tag today. Make up your own version of tag by adding a few challenges. Play tag with your pets.
