May 23rd Lucky Penny Day

So exactly what is a lucky penny? I’d say any penny you find could be considered lucky, unless of course it is covered in some rare poison or virus. But the true test of a lucky penny is finding it on heads and then taking it and never spending it, which is pretty easy to do these days because nothing actually costs a penny! To me, finding any money is already good luck so you were lucky to find it to start with! Just remember it has to be on heads or it could actually bring you bad luck… that is if you believe in that sort of thing.

How to celebrate – Look for pennies on heads. If you find a penny on tails, turn it over and leave it for the next person. If you find any other coins it doesn’t matter if they are on heads or tails, you were just lucky to start with!

May 23rd Lucky Penny Day

Find a penny on heads and it’s considered good luck. What if you found 2,000 pennies on tails? Wouldn’t that be lucky as well? Well maybe, but if you try to put 2,000 pennies in your pocket that might not work out to well. If you find a copper penny made during World War Two you’ll not only be lucky but you’ll also be rich! Just keep in mind that if you are looking for your lucky penny on the ground, look up every once in a while or you might finds yourself walking into a wall!

March 13th Friday the 13th

If you are scared of the number 13 you have Triskaidekaphobia. Personally, I am afraid of that word! It is believed that Friday the 13th got off to a bad start as the day that Able killed Cain. At least it was a bad day for Cain. The Code of Hammurah omitted the 13th when it came to making laws. Many buildings do not have a 13th floor (well they do have but they don’t label one as such). And Captains would not put to sea if they had a crew of 13. So if today is bad luck for you, even though we generally make our own bad luck, then you might want to avoid doing much today. If you meet a guy named Jason, run!

How to celebrate – Go back to bed and wait for the 14th. Observe Backwards Day today making it the 31st. Just get through your day anyway you can.

May 23rd National Lucky Penny Day

I know people who think a penny is worthless. But if they find one on the ground they will go out of their way to pick it up, if it is on heads. It’s supposed to bring you good luck, though I doubt that it really does. Particularly if the one you have found happens to be in the middle of a busy street.

A Day in the Life of Pennies

There are some countries that do not even make pennies anymore and many in the US think they are right. After-all, it takes a ton of them to buy anything. It use to be that a penny was at least good for penny candy or to pay the tax on something you’ve bought but not so much anymore.

pick it up

Actually you can find lots of coins on the ground if you just look. I remember spotting something shiny in my school garbage dumpster and on closer inspection I found over $12.00 in pennies a teacher was too lazy to take home, even the janitors threw them away. Hint- I didn’t!

A penny saved is a penny earned according to Ben Franklin. He grew wealthy over his career so I figure what was good for him is good for me! And who knows, you may find a double stamped penny worth a small fortune! Even finding copper pennies made during the World War 2 years can be worth a lot of money because they needed the copper for the weapons.

So don’t think that penny you see on the ground is worthless. Go ahead and pick it up. If you are superstitious, just pick up the ones on heads. If you don’t care, pick them all up. You will definately be richer than you were before, either way!

How to celebrate – Keep your head down when you walk and search for money! Give a penny a break and save it. Bag up what you have found over a years time and see how much it’s worth!

April 13th Friday The 13th

Watch out and be very, very careful today… it’s Friday the 13th! If you suffer from Triskaidekaphobia then today is definitely not your day! (In case you didn’t know that word that goes on forever means fear of the number 13. And don’t feel bad because I didn’t know it either!)

Many believe it was a Friday the 13th when Cain killed Abel, but since there were no calendars back then, nobody really knows. Opposed to it being negative on that side of the world in the Americas Mayan’s believed the number 13 to be sacred. Go figure.

The Babylonian’s felt the number 13 was so unlucky that they excluded it in the Babylonian Code of Hammurah back in 1700 B.C.. Of course, it was also believed that Friday itself was an unlucky day so, it was a double whammy!

Then in 1980 Friday the 13th became unlucky for everyone when Jason came back to life. It was even more unlucky because I think they made at least 13 of the movies! The first couple were okay if you like blood and gore but come on, even the Rocky series got to be a bit much! I mean, how many times can you kill a guy and he keeps coming back!?!

So depending on whether you are a descendent of the Mayan culture or not, be careful about today. Mainly because if you think something can go wrong, it normally will. Superstitions are funny because we generally cause bad things to happen because we fear them, those same things might never happen if we just don’t think about it.

How to celebrate – Go back to bed and sleep the day away. Celebrate the day welcoming whatever happens to you. Think positive thoughts.

January 13th Friday the 13th

I am not  sure if this is a day you would actually consider a holiday or not but it is on the list. This year, 2017, we will have two Friday the 13th’s, one today and the other in October. There are many people who fear the 13th, or anything to do with the number 13. This is called Triskaidekaphobia, fear of the number 13.

Ships Captains are said to never sail with 12 sailors as with the addition of the Captain that makes a 13 man crew (or woman as it may be). Most skyscrapers do not have a 13th floor. And many people will not set a 13th place setting at a table, preferring to set up another table to avoid putting 13 at one table.

The one possible human (or sort of human anyway) that enjoys Friday the 13th, would be Jason. It’s the one day of the year that he gets to come out of his shell and be the best he can be. Although, in the end, he generally has the same ending and is gone by Saturday the 14th. His producers enjoy many, many other days, as the cash continues to roll in!

Some theories say that it was a Friday the 13th when Cain killed Abel, but since there were no calendars back then, it’s hard to say if it was the 13th or not. I am sure it was a bad day for Abel no matter what day of the month it was.

We do know, however, that the Babylonian Code of Hammurah in 1,700 B.C. omitted the number 13, which is maybe where the first 13th floor was averted in their tower. And we all know that didn’t work out so well.

How to celebrate – Sleep in on the 13th, at least until it becomes the 14th. Avoid anything risky today (which might be good advice for any day). Avoid ladders and black cats today. Watch Friday the 13th as you hide under many blankets.
