February 14th Valentine’s Day

Created for the Roman God of Fertility, and originally called the Feast of Lupercalia, Valentine’s Day is all about lovers. If you didn’t already known that… well, you have to have been living under a rock. It’s also a day we remember because of gangland killings and the high cost of flowers and candies. But it is a day to celebrate the one you love, and hopefully loves you back. It’s a day or roses, wine, fine dinners and romantic get-a-aways that you will have to pay for sometime. One way or another!

How to celebrate – Tell your loved one that you love them with a brand new world. Send your loved on a Valentine’s Day Card.. American Express works best. Visit Roman.

February 14th Valentine’s Day

Today we celebrate the Feast of Lupercalia, the Roman God of Fertility, aka Valentine’s Day. Now if you didn’t know today was Valentine’s Day you need to crawl out from under that rock you live in and wake up! (Particularly if you are involved with someone) I believe forgetting to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the one you love is actually considered a criminal offense. Seriously though, show them you love them and thank them for putting up with you because it’s not an easy job.

How to celebrate – Spend the day with the one you love. Buy some candy and flowers, or jewelry or anything you think of that will impress your love. Wear red today.

March 26th Make Up Your Own Holiday Day

We have all sorts of holidays available to us to celebrate, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Thanksgiving, and so on and so on. So why not make up your own holiday!?! Sure, maybe you haven’t done the things that St. Patrick or Jesus did but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a holiday named after you and or any day you think should be celebrated. Today was made available, apparently, by the Wellness Permission League. So why not have a holiday just for yourself, your family and your friends… after-all, you deserve it.

How to celebrate – Decide what holiday you want to create. Set a date for the holiday. Decide how to celebrate your holiday.

February 15th Singles Awareness Day

February 15th Singles Awareness Day

There are people who enjoy being single. They are filled with life not requiring another person to complete them. I am not sure about the awareness thing though… don’t they know if they are single or not? I guess the day is celebrated for those of us that think they are in need of someone when they really don’t. It is the Valentine’s Day for those who choose to live their lives on their own. After-all, you do have to love yourself before you can love someone else.

How to celebrate – Buy yourself a gift today. Take yourself out to dinner tonight. Live and let live.

February 14th Valentine’s Day

We can thank the Romans for today as they honored their God of Fertility at the Feast of Lupercalia. We celebrate love today by giving gifts to the person we love. It seems old hat that we give candy or flowers, but what is older than love? It does make me wonder what Adam gave Eve for Valentine’s Day, but then the Romans hadn’t been around yet so maybe he lucked out because I don’t think candy had been invented yet. Maybe he gave her a new fig leaf. Anyway, give your loved one a reminder that you love them and that your life would not be the same without them.

How to celebrate – Honor the one you love. Give some original thought gift. Visit Rome.

February 14th Valentines Day

Today is the day for lovers! It is actually the Roman holiday called the Feast of Lupercalia, the god of fertility created centuries ago probably to help populate the Roman empire. We have changed it a bit over the years to become a day where we show our affection to those we do love and those we would like to. (Let’s not go crazy here!)

Not long ago people believed this was also the first day of bird mating season. I’m not sure how that translate to our current belief in Valentine’s Day but I suppose what ever cracks your tractor. We do, however, often take those we love and cherish for granted far more than we should. Today is the day the world has chosen to show that love in chocolate, flowers, diamonds and more.

It is also the time to express your love for someone who may not know you love them. Take care here though and make sure your advances will be welcomed. Maybe giving someone an apple would be a better choice. If they don’t get your point then you can always claim you just thought they were hungry.

How to celebrate – Let someone know you love them. Find a different gift to express your love from the common place. make sure the one you love wants to be loved by you.

February 14th Valentine’s Day

Today is the day to show the one you love just how much you actually love them… or at least try to. The original Valentine’s Day appears to have been celebrated in the Roman Empire as a Feast of Lupercagia, the Roman God of Fertility.

If you are lucky, your love will like perfume, jewelry, flowers or chocolate. If not, then you have your work cut out for you. Today being Ash Wednesday as well complicates the matter even more.

is-kissing-important-to-a-relationship

On February 14th, 2009, 39,897 people all kissed for 10 seconds in Mexico City setting a world record. The thing I find a bit alarming about that is that it’s an uneven number! So, who was the odd person out kissing?

ValentinesDayMassacre

Another interesting Valentine’s Day event was the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. It’s about a bunch of gangsters dressed up as police cutting down another group of gangsters in a hail of gunfire. I guess you could call it the kiss of death, but not very romantic.

Well, at least the chocolate companies get rich today. 75% of all chocolate sold in a year is sold today. And the flower companies don’t do bad either. They too sell more roses today than during the rest of the year, also set at 75% of the yearly sales. That’s about 110 million roses sold for one day.

How to celebrate – I hope you find someway to tell your loved one that you love them. Fix your loved one a romantic dinner. Find time to spend with your loved one.

January 26th National Spouse’s Day

Today is the day we celebrate our better half. You know, the one that puts up with everything we do wrong and hopefully still loves us the same for it. No one seems to know who created the day but I have a feeling it was someone in the dog house who wanted to find a great way of redeeming themselves. It also warms us up for Valentine’s Day.

From the moment you say I do you instantly begin saying… I should have, I won’t do it again, I’m sorry… and a lot of other things that you know you should have done differently, but for some unknown reason you didn’t.  But in the name of love, you put up with it and carry on, sometimes when you don’t even know what it is that you did that you shouldn’t have done.

None of us is perfect, we all make mistakes that we regret and need forgiveness from. The difference is, a spouse generally forgives us when others would not (though admittedly that is not always the case). We try to recognize our faults and correct them where we can, or learn to live with them if we can’t.

The main thing to remember is, that you love them, and life would be very difficult to live without them. Today goes deeper than a box of candy or a vase of flowers, today is a day of understanding someone’s faults and saying, they are still worth my effort to forgive them.

How to celebrate – Do something nice for your spouse. Write out a list of those things you have to be grateful to your spouse for. Think of the other person in your relationship before you think about yourself.

February 21st Card Reading Day

Ever hear the quote, “It’s in the cards” ? Well, it’s supposed to be what comes in your future, but the past may have something to do with that too. No one is exactly sure what cards are supposed to be read today though. Is it supposed to be the greeting card? Those cards sent to you on your birthday, anniversary, Christmas, Valentine’s Day? Does anyone even send cards anymore or are we talking ecards here?

Or maybe they are talking about the Tarot cards, that tell the future. Does anyone believe in the Tarot cards? Can something so random as picking a card out of a deck spell out what your future is? Maybe if you draw the same cards over and over again it might prove something, or is that tempting fate?  And who says that what your fate is can even be related into cards. None of us are the exact same person so how can a card spell out someone’s future when it is likely people will draw the same cards as others.

Or could they be talking about the playing card? I remember when playing cards was a fun thing to do. People don’t do that all that much anymore… too many computer choices. But they used to play bridge or hearts or whatever. It led to great conversation and who could resist those chocolate covered raisins!?!

And who are “they” anyway!?! The dealers, the gamblers, the card sharks? Does it really matter who “they” are? Probably not.

How to celebrate – Find some sort of card to read today. Send out a card, ecard or whatever kind of card you want. Start a card collection.

February 14th Valentines Day

Ah, the most romantic day of the year. It’s appropriate that they put it in winter where we can cuddle together without sweating!  Today it’s all about chocolate and flowers for the one you love. Of course if they are allergic to chocolate, flowers, perfume… well, good luck! In all honesty though, its just about showing your soul mate that you love them… something you should do everyday.

The day supposedly celebrates the Roman God of Fertility. The above is the Goddess because… well… the only God of Fertility I could find was Greek and he really stood out if you catch my drift. You can check him out if you like but be warned.

It is also known as the first day of birds mating season. I guess a lot of birds are  born Aquarius. Of course they have all flown south for the winter so I assume most birds are southern. You can check this out for yourself by listening to their Southern accent chirping.

In 2009 39,897 coules got together in Mexico and kissed for 10 seconds creating a new world record. It happened to be Valentines Day. Ironically February 15th, 2009 marks the most ever reported colds day. (Not really) Red and pink are the Valentine color. Of course pink is the mix of white and red so… red means energy, strength, power and danger (All things that get your heart beating faster) mixed with the innocense and purity of white. So red leads to white and ends up pink!

Whatever reason you choose, today is the day to show your lover that you love them. If you know them well enough, you know what you need to do. Over 1 billion dollars of chocolates sell today, I have no idea what the amount spent on flowers is but I am sure it’s close to the same. No matter what you buy, saying I love you is what really matters.

How to celebrate – Let your mate know you love them. Take your mate out for a nice dinner. Go buy some fish with the one you love.
