The Twilight Zone has been one of the most widely known mystery shows of all time. It began in 1959 with Rod Serling as host and ran until 1964. Those 5 years though seem to have created a following that lasts even well into the 2020’s now. It is not without its problems though as the movie in 1983 met with disaster and death while filming. Today is the day we remember the Zone, but apparently no one claims to have created the day. Huh, maybe we are all in the Twilight Zone and just don’t know it.
How to celebrate – Watch reruns of “The Twilight Zone”. Take a look at all the stars that were featured in the “Twilight Zone”. Read the “Twilight Zone” books.
Can you imagine a world where ever T was crossed and every I was doted? Where everyone wore the same clothes, spoke the same language, and ate the same foods? To me, that would be absurd. What do you consider absurd? Is it some one who dresses in strange clothes or wears their hair in different colors. I admit that is not my cup of tea either. But, they, just as I, have the right to think the way they want, dress the way they want, and to do the unexpected from time to time. Without these absurdities we would all be the same. I don’t always like them, sometimes I totally disagree with them, but we have the right to be as absurd as we want to be… when I don’t like it, I’ll just look the other way.
How to celebrate – Live and let live. Try something you’ve never done before. Make a list of things you think others might find absurd about you.
Tap dance has been around since the early 1800’s. It’s roots come from a mix of African and Irish dance and music. It’s rhythms are limited only to the imaginations of those great dancers over the years. The date for this celebration was picked to commemorate one of the first greats, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, birthday May 25th, 1878.
The holiday was created by Carol Vaughn, Nicola Daval, and Linda Christensen who put the idea to Congress on February 7, 1989. President George H.W. Bush signed it into law on November 8, 1989, and the date of May 25th was selected in honor of Robinson.
Here are a few more, of the hundreds, of tap dancers that you may remember.
…Or who could forget the tap dance scene with Daddy Warbucks and Orphan Annie
How to celebrate: Try tap dancing. Buy a pair of tap shoes so you can at least make that cool clicking sound. If you can’t get your feet working, put the shoes on your hands and try. Watch a movie with any of the above dancers in it.
Have you ever wanted to create your own holiday? Well today is the day to do it, March 26th, is National Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. It is believed that the Wellness Permission League started the day but no one knows for sure, guess it doesn’t really matter because this is supposed to be your day.
If you want to make this (Insert your name here) Day, go ahead. Or maybe you could create a day with a little more pizzazz! Like, I Love My Hammer Day, or Dance With Your Dog Day, or maybe even Have a Flower For Lunch Day!
Of course you’ll need to come up with how you celebrate this day. No one is going to know if you are wrong or right, this is your creation! What food is best served for this holiday?
